Jihad Threat Continues in New Theaters as Well as Old

by Christopher W. Holton

The UAE publication “The National” has published an article on 2019’s deadliest terrorist groups. It seems rather odd that it took so long to publish such an article about 2019, but perhaps the Wuhan virus pandemic is responsible. The article ranks terrorist groups by the number of reported deaths they caused during 2019.

Body count is a poor metric for measuring the activity of Jihadists because body count can be largely a matter of chance. A bomb detonating just an hour after rush hour somewhere might kill just a few victims, whereas the same bomb in the same place detonated an hour earlier could kill scores or even hundreds. Nevertheless the National article does illustrate one important thing: As we have been reporting for several years, Africa has become the primary theater of operations in the global Jihadist insurgency.

2 of the 4 most deadly Jihadist groups in the world operate exclusively in Africa. A 3rd, ISIS, also has major operations in Africa, particularly in Mozambique.

Boko Haram, notorious for kidnapping hundreds of Christian schoolgirls in 2014 (nearly half of whom were never recovered), operates in Nigeria, Cameroon, Niger and Burkina Faso.

Al Shabaab operates mainly in Somalia and Kenya but has also carried out operations in Uganda and Ethiopia. Al Shabaab has a support network in the U.S., particularly in the Minneapolis region among the Somali expatriate community there. There have been multiple convictions of Somalis on material support for terrorism charges in the U.S. and they have threatened the U.S. in the past.

Another Jihadist group not mentioned in this article is Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM). They have been active in Algeria, Mali, Libya, Niger and Mauritania. AQIM recently named a new emir, Abu Ubaidah Yusef al-Annabi. Al-Annabi replaced Abdelmalek Droukdel (Abu Musab Abdel Wadoud), who was killed in June in Mali by French military operators under the Commandement des Opérations Spéciales.

We ignore what is happening in Africa at our peril. As the now deceased leader of Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) Anwar al-Awlaki said: “Jihad is global. Jihad is not a local phenomenon, jihad is global and is not stopped by borders or barriers.”

That is why we point out that we are on the receiving end of a global Jihadist insurgency.

Boko Haram is based in northern Nigeria, yet clearly they are funded by oil-rich Muslims in regions over 3000 air miles away–supporters who probably have never been to Nigeria and probably never will go to Nigeria.

Al Shabaab is based in Somalia, yet they have received support from Minnesota, more than 8,000 miles away:

https://terrortrendsbulletin.com/2016/01/02/the-enemy-within-al-shabaab-makes-video-of-american-jihadis-killed-in-somalia/

Historically, when Jihadists are allowed a safe haven, they simply use it as a base of operations to spread jihad elsewhere. The example of the Taliban in the National article is instructive.

It is generally–and falsely–assumed that the Taliban were strictly local to Afghanistan and have no interest in global jihad. This has never been the case. First of all, the Taliban weren’t even formed in Afghanistan, they were established by the Pakistani ISI (Pakistan’s intelligence organization) in neighboring Pakistan out of students in madrassas (Islamic schools). (Taliban translated into English actually means “student.”) When the Taliban subsequently seized power, long after the Soviets withdrew from Afghanistan, they invited foreign fighters who had fought the Soviets in the 1980s to come back to Afghanistan to make it a “launching pad for global jihad.” It’s no accident that 9/11 was hatched from Afghanistan.

We are now seeing much of an entire continent engulfed in violent jihad. This never seems to end well.

GERMANY: Protecting the Privacy of Convicted Terrorists

by Christopher W. Holton

One of the most disheartening aspects of the war against Jihad is the parade of self-defeating and truly idiotic policies that Western nations have concocted while our heroic warriors and first responders attempt to defeat our enemies and defend us against their attacks.

Here we have a prime example.

A 37-year old German national who fought for the Taliban in Afghanistan from 2013 until February of this year, when he was captured by US and German special forces, has been convicted by a German court for being a member of a terrorist organization.

So far so good, but it gets bad from here.

First of all, the Jihadi was sentenced to…6 years in prison. SIX YEARS IN PRISON. He fought for the Taliban for 5 years, yet he only gets a 6 year prison sentence…

Here are some of his activities while he was in Afghanistan for 5 years:

prosecutors said he prepared explosives, got ready for a suicide attack and worked on a propaganda video aimed at German radicals. He also allegedly had himself filmed participating in a failed mortar attack on an Afghan army base

For this he gets 6 years in prison.

And here’s another outrage:

The terrorist has only been identified as “Thomas K.”

Why?

German privacy laws forbid his full name being disclosed.

GOOD GRIEF.

In 6 years (or possibly even sooner) “Thomas K” will be released from prison and no one outside of German intelligence and criminal justice will have any idea who he is.

Finally, note also that Thomas K has resorted to what recently has become the favored deflection for Jihadis who have been captured. He’s pulling the “Crazy Card,” claiming he was schizophrenic and depressed…

Jihadists React with Rhetoric to America’s Israel Embassy Move

by Christopher W. Holton

Many believe that the best way to judge someone is not just by their friends, but by their enemies.

If that axiom is true, then America must be doing something right, because the lowest of the low in the human race are coming forth with their venom and threats in the wake of President Trump’s announcement that the U.S. will move its embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

Just about every Jihadist organization on the planet has chimed in.

Before you assume that President Trump’s announcement will touch off attacks of retaliation, you should realize that all of these organizations have already carried out atrocities and attacks. Moving the embassy to Jerusalem will not change them. It merely draws them out into the open with their disgusting rhetoric:

• Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan “spokesman” Mohammad Khorasani issued a statement condemning President Trump’s decision and called for “all Muslims to unite against kufr (non-believers).”

• The founder and leader of the UN- designated terrorist group Jaish-e-Mohammed, Maulana Masood Azhar, released a threatening statement against President Trump’s decision.

• In a statement posted on on the Ikhwanonline.info website, the Muslim Brotherhood declared the U.S. an “enemy” and “Jerusalem is an Islamic and Arab land, for which we will shed our blood, freedom and life, and we fight every aggressor and every supporter of aggression. This is the way of our Jihad.”

• Al Qaeda released the following statement: “Recognition of Jerusalem as capital of the Zionist entity is blatant aggression by Crusader Trump against the sanctities of Muslims. The surest and shortest way to confront the aggression and arrogance of the Pharaoh of this age, the U.S., is Jihad in the Way of Allah, by targeting its vital interests and the interests of its Zionist and Crusader allies everywhere.”

• Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb: “We call on every mujahid to support the liberation of Palestine, the victory of the Palestinians to purge al-Aqsa of Jewish filth.”

• Kashmir-based Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind: “It is a duty upon Muslims to come forth with urgency and do everything needed to stop the madman sitting in the White House and stop him from dishonoring the sacred land of Bayt al-Maqdis and to storm and burn the embassies of the U.S. and Israel to demolish them. We urge honorable Muslims across the world to attack and harm U.S. and Israeli companies and financial and commercial interests. The honor of Bayt al-Maqdis will be restored by shedding the blood of Americans and Israelis. It is the duty of every Muslim, no matter where, to restore the honor of Bayt al-Maqdis. The Holy Land must be made the graveyard for Jews.”

• The Hasam Movement (Arms of Egypt Movement) released a written statement calling for an uprising in response to the decision.

• Hezbollah: Hezbollah leader Sayyed Nasrallah spoke and said that the most important reactions that must be made are a new Intifada and a new Arab summit. He also said the decision was a legitimate reason to target U.S. forces.

• Al Shabaab: “Trump’s decision to relocate the U.S. embassy is evidence of aggression against Islam and Muslims. We urge all Muslims to take up weapons and defend al-Aqsa from the American-backed Zionist occupation.”

• The Taliban: “The Islamic Emirate strongly condemns recognition of Muslims’ first Qibla Baital Maqdas, as the capital of occupying Israel by the president of America. We consider this anti-Muslim bigotry and a reckless step. The decision by Trump will fan the flames of conflict in the entire world, especially in the Middle East.”

Islamic State and Taliban form alliance in Afghan Theater of Operations

Militants-of-the-Islamic-State-of-Iraq-and-the-Levant-ISIL-posing-with-the-trademark-Jihadists-flag

posted by Christopher W. Holton

Up until recently, the Taliban were hostile to Islamic State forces in Afghanistan. That has now changed and it doesn’t bode well for the dwindling coalition forces in Afghanistan tasked with preventing the Jihadists from seizing power once again…

Islamic State and the Taliban, after more than a year of fierce combat, have forged a patchwork cease-fire across much of eastern Afghanistan that has helped both insurgencies regroup and counter U.S.-backed efforts to dislodge them.

Until several months ago, Islamic State fought bloody battles with local Taliban units over fighters and territory in several provinces. The long-running Taliban insurgency has sought to stamp out its smaller rival, which only emerged in 2014. Afghan and U.S.-led coalition forces took advantage of the conflict, engaging the militants on multiple fronts to push them back and reclaim territory they held.

But recently, Afghan officials say, the two insurgencies have worked out local deals to stop fighting each other and turn their sights on the government. The upshot is that Islamic State has been able to focus on fighting U.S.- backed Afghan forces in Nangarhar province and shift north into Kunar province, establishing a new foothold in a longtime Taliban and former al Qaeda stronghold.

US Army Issues New Shoulder Patch for Campaign Against “ISIL”

By Christopher Holton

The US Army has issued a new shoulder patch for the slightly more than 3,000 troops who President Obama has decided he can spare to fight the world’s most dangerous Jihadist entity, the Islamic State, which the US federal government still insists on referring to as “ISIL,” despite the fact that there are now Jihadi groups from West Africa to the Philippines that have pledged allegiance to the Islamic State.

Nothing illustrates better the institutional denial that we are saddled with as a nation in our fight to save Western civilization than our federal counter terror bureaucracy’s slavish attitude toward outmoded views on the threat from Jihad…except maybe the new shoulder patch that is the subject of this post. Here it is:

New Jihadist group surfaces in Afghanistan, calling itself ‘Islamic Commandos’

803283.ai

While much of Afghanistan has been wracked by violence in recent months with the resurgence of the Taliban as the US withdraws forces, along with the entry of Islamic State Jihadists, Allied forces are now evidently battling a new terror group called the ‘Islamic Commandos’.

The Islamic Commandos group has reportedly been operating in the Zabul, Urozgan and Kandahar provinces in Afghanistan, with at least 1,000 members, according to Afghan officials. The officials believe that the Islamic Commandos are a breakaway group from the Taliban.

Lying Liars Lying Yet Again About the Taliban

By Christopher Holton

Two Taliban Jihadis getting ready to behead a Polish hostage. Note the flag in the background. If you can't tell the difference between this setting and those of EVERY OTHER JIHADIST organization in the world, then you aren't qualified to work for President Obama

Two Taliban Jihadis getting ready to behead a Polish hostage. Note the flag in the background. If you can’t tell the difference between this setting and those of EVERY OTHER JIHADIST organization in the world, then you aren’t qualified to work for President Obama

Obama and his Obamanistas have told so many outright lies about the Taliban over the years that we can now devote a lengthy article to it.

It started way back in 2008 when Obama was campaigning for the presidency. Back in those days he was saying that Iraq was a sideshow and that President Bush had “taken his eye off the ball.” According to Obama, the good war was in Afghanistan and he was going to concentrate on Afghanistan, where the Taliban were fighting US forces, when he got to be president.

That turned out to be campaign rhetoric. Sure, he pulled out of Iraq first, but, let’s face it: Obama never really went hard in Afghanistan and now he’s abandoning that fight, just as he abandoned the fight in Iraq.

Pretty soon into his administration, the Obamanistas started the meme that the Taliban weren’t actually our enemy. This predates the latest supposition that the Taliban aren’t terrorists by several years.

Two lies there. The Taliban are America’s enemy and they are also terrorists.

In December 2013, the Taliban published the autumn edition of their magazine, Azan.

This was the fourth issue of the magazine and was significant in that it called for Muslims in the West to launch attacks at home or fight on foreign battlefields, urging recruits to even leave behind their children or elderly parents:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/al-qaeda/10503925/Taliban-magazine-urges-jihad-and-profiles-the-Honda-125.html

If calling on Jihadis to launch attacks in the West doesn’t amount to terrorism, nothing does.

Such calls to Jihad and other propaganda are nothing new, so why was this particular publication worth mentioning here?

Because it had been released just a few days after the Obama administration was quoted saying that “the Taliban are not our enemies and we don’t want to fight them.”

http://www.breitbart.com/national-security/2013/11/27/karzai-will-sign-agreement-with-u-s-says-obama-administration-claimed-taliban-not-our-enemy/

Such statements about the Taliban were nothing new from the Obama administration. Vice President Joe Biden told Newsweek magazine the same thing almost exactly two years before:

http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2011/12/vp-biden-says-that-the-taliban-per-se-is-not-our-enemy/

Not only are these statements from the Obama administration disheartening because our troops have been fighting Taliban Jihadis for a decade, they also demonstrate a profound ignorance about Jihadist doctrine.

Jihadist doctrine does not regard nationalities or international borders as significant. Under their doctrine, Jihad is to be waged to make Allah’s law and religion supreme around the entire world. With their fall Azan magazine, the Taliban clearly demonstrate adherence to that doctrine with their call for Muslims in the West to launch attacks at home.

What’s more this is not something new from the Taliban. When they seized power in Afghanistan in 1996, they announced that Afghanistan was to be a launching pad for global Jihad and invited Jihadi fighters to come to their country. Jihadis from all over the Islamic world and even parts of the West and the Pacific Rim heeded that call and gravitated to the new Shariah-ruled outpost established by the Taliban regime.

Among those who relocated to Afghanistan was Osama Bin Laden and Al Qaeda. We know the rest: Al Qaeda launched its attack on America from Afghanistan and the Taliban harbored Al Qaeda from the US when America sought to bring justice down on them.

How anyone can look at these facts and conclude that the Taliban are not our enemy is mind-boggling. The idea that the Taliban want to strictly limit their evil designs to Afghanistan is absurd. Yet that has been the policy of the Obama administration for years. It is a policy of lies.

And, yes, despite what the Obamanistas might claim, the Taliban are in fact terrorists.

Actually, we don’t believe that it makes sense to get too wrapped up in labeling them “terrorists.” Terrorism is a tactic, a method of warfare. The warfare that the Taliban–and the Islamic State, Al Qaeda, Lashkar e Taiba, HAMAS, Al Shabaab, Boko Haram and a host of other groups–are waging is called Jihad. In Islamic law, Jihad is defined as warfare to establish the religion:

https://terrortrendsbulletin.com/2013/01/13/cairs-new-disinformation-campaign-on-jihad/

All of the groups mentioned above, including the Taliban, are Jihadis.

But it is still NOT true that the Taliban haven’t engaged in terrorism and they are not just “armed insurgents” like the bodyguards of lies in the Obama administration maintain.

Just 6 weeks ago, on December 16, the Taliban slaughtered 153 people–mostly young school children–in a terrorist attack on a school in Pakistan.

Taliban have also been involved in terrorist plots and activity on US soil:

• In May of 2011, six people, including two Imams at a Florida mosque, were indicted for providing material support to none other than the Taliban:

• Faisal Shahzad, the Jihadist who attempted to detonate a Vehicle-Born Improvised Explosive Device (VBIED) in New York’s Time Square in May 2010, was trained at a Taliban camp and, according to Attorney General Eric Holder himself, “the Pakistani Taliban was behind the attack…We know they helped facilitate it. We know they probably helped finance it and that he was working at their direction.”

• Najibullah Zazi, an Afghan-American who pled guilty in a plot to bomb the New York City subway in 2009, traveled to Afghanistan to join the Taliban when he was recruited by Al Qaeda to go back to America to attack targets in the US homeland. This shows the continued, close cooperation and collaboration between the Taliban and Al Qaeda.

http://www.investigativeproject.org/case/345

Most recently, there are new reports from Leftist NBC News that hundreds of Taliban fighters have joined the Islamic State, which is becoming a greater factor in the southwest Asia region.

The Obamanistas try to make a distinction between the Taliban in Afghanistan and the Taliban in Pakistan. But not even NBC is subscribing to that nonsense. No one in the world outside the Obama administration believes that the Taliban in Pakistan and the Taliban in Afghanistan have nothing to do with each other.

http://www.nbcnews.com/news/world/isis-pakistan-afghanistan-taliban-fighters-sign-commanders-say-n296707

The Taliban are committed Jihadists. As such, they are undoubtedly an enemy of America. They have killed and wounded thousands of US GIs in combat over the past decade and they have, from the time they originally seized power in Afghanistan to today, involved themselves with other Jihadist organizations from around the world, all of which are classified as “terrorist” organizations. Jihadis do not limit their scope based on political borders; their stated goals are global. To say that the Taliban are not the enemy of the United States or are not terrorists is to demonstrate a profound ignorance of the doctrinal basis for the threat from Jihad. When that ignorance comes from the executive branch of the US government, it can only be described as frightening.

JIHAD ISN’T ALL ABOUT ISRAEL

By Christopher Holton

If you listen to some political pundits on both sides of the aisle, you might get the misimpression that Jihadists target America and America is viewed negatively in the Islamic world because of our support for Israel.

The problem with that line of thinking is that ignores some 1400 years of Islamic doctrine.

Each Jihadist terror organization around the globe has a specific goal in mind and that is the formation of an Islamic state ruled by Shariah.

This is very important to understand because this is a common goal of all the major Jihadist organizations across the world. It is shared by Al Qaeda, HAMAS, Lashkar e Taiba, Abu Sayyaf, Jemaah Islamiyah, Boko Haram, Al Shabaab and others and transcends any localized disagreements over borders and pure politics.

Israel could evaporate tomorrow and the overriding goal of the formation of Islamic states ruled by Shariah would not change a bit.

Those who blame Jihad on Israel need to ask themselves some important questions:

  • Did ISIS wage Jihad in Iraq and Syria to establish an Islamic state ruled by Shariah law because America supports Israel?
  • Did the Jihadist terrorist group Boko Haram in Nigeria kidnap 300 young girls this spring because America supports Israel?
  • Did the Taliban seize power in Afghanistan in 1996 to establish an Islamic state ruled by Shariah law because America supports Israel?
  • Did the Jihadist terrorist group Al Shabaab attack the Westgate shopping mall in Nairobi, Kenya, in September 2013, killing 67 innocent civilians, because America supports Israel?
  • Did the Jihadist terrorist group Lashkar e Taiba launch terrorist attacks in Mumbai, India in 2008, killing 154 innocent civilians because America supports Israel?
  • Did the Jihadist terrorist group Jemaah Islamiyah bomb resorts in Bali, Indonesia in October 2002, killing 202 innocent civilians because America supports Israel?
  • Did Chechen Jihadist terrorists massacre 334 people, mostly school children, in Beslan, Russia, because the US supports Israel?
  • Did Jihadist terrorists with the group Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) detonate a bomb in Marrakesh, Morroco in April 2011, killing 17 innocent civilians, because America supports Israel.

Of course, the answer to each and every one of these questions is no and the questions and answers prove a point. Jihad is truly global. Tragically, it is one of the most successful “exports” in the world over the past decade.

None of the regions mentioned above have a thing to do with Israel. Most don’t have anything to do with America.

The doctrine behind global jihad is over a thousand years old. In other words, the jihadist doctrine has been around far longer than America has even been in existence.

The Jihadists are not motivated only by our actions. They don’t just react to what we do. They have their own reasons for waging violent Jihad which have nothing to do with America, Israel or anything that you or I have any control over.

The quicker our politicians—both Democrat and Republican—gain a full understanding of this, the better.

And Again in Pakistan

What we have seen overnight in Pakistan with the slaughter of 120–mostly schoolchildren–at the hands of Taliban jihadists is not a new phenomenon.

In September 2004, Chechan jihadists slaughtered hundreds of schoolchildren in Beslan, Russia.

Two attacks, ten years apart, in two different countries. One an Islamic country in southwest Asia, the other the nation that bridges East and West.

There is one common thread: Islamic jihad. Both attacks were carried out by Muslim terrorists as acts of Jihad.

Both the Chechen jihadists and the Taliban jihadists base their existence and their actions on Islamic doctrine. Both have the same goal: the establishment of an Islamic state ruled by Shariah.

We ignore these facts at our peril, yet the West collectively continues to ignore the facts of jihad. In fact, we are in active denial about the doctrine that underpins the actions of our enemies.

As horrible as the attack overnight in Pakistan was, it is undeniable that this is truly a case of Frankenstein’s monster coming back to attack its creator.

The Taliban were formed and trained by the Pakistani secret intelligence service. And the Taliban could never have seized power in Afghanistan years ago without the support of the Taliban.

Now the Taliban have turned on the Pakistani military in a horrible way.

Finally, the Western denial about the doctrinal basis in Islam for our jihadist enemies continues to be outrageously dangerous.

It is only Tuesday. So far this week, jihadists have struck in Sydney, Australia and Peshawar, Pakistan. Don’t be shocked if this week ends as badly as it began.

More Details on Islamic State’s Growing Support Among Jihadi Groups in Pakistan

The Islamic State is gaining acceptance and accumulating followers among Jihadist groups from the Philippines to Nigeria.

But there is perhaps no Islamic State alliance more worrisome than its devotees in the Taliban.

Earlier this week, the Pakistani Taliban’s spokesman and 5 other Taliban chieftains in Pakistan pledged allegiance to the Islamic State. The six will remain members of the Taliban but are also now official emissaries of the Islamic State.

This development is sure to have serious consequences for security in Pakistan and Afghanistan (all six of these men are based near the Afghan border), bringing the type of violence and brutal Shariah oppression the Islamic State has brought to Syria and Iraq.

There are now worries that other senior members of the Taliban may declare allegiance to the Islamic State, including the Taliban’s overall leader in Pakistan, Maulana Fazlullah, who has previously voiced support for the organization.

The Islamic State now controls  vast areas of Iraq and Syria, has welcomed tens of thousands of Jihadis from around the globe into its ranks, and has become the wealthiest terrorist organization on record, with zakat donations from rich Salafist supporters in Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and elsewhere, in addition to an income of up to $3 million per day from oil sold on the Middle East’s lucrative black market.
