Obama to address America on Guantanamo Prison

by Christopher W. Holton

As President Obama prepares to speak about his plans for closing the prison at Guantanamo Bay, there are some things to keep in mind:

1. Credible estimates indicate that between 20% and 30% of those who were held and then released from Guantanamo returned to violent Jihad. This included Al Qaeda and Taliban leaders and some who have joined the Islamic State.

2. Despite what Obama will say, the enemy does NOT use Guantanamo as a recruiting tool. It is completely absent from their recruiting propaganda. What they actually use are their successes, not their failures. The Left, led by Obama, have given aid and comfort to the Jihadists by promoting the meme that Guantanamo is a recruiting tool for the enemy. When Leftists in America were first airing this myth, what the Jihadists were REALLY using to recruit was the September 11th attacks. To this day, they use attacks such as San Bernardino and Chattanooga, as well as attacks around the world, to recruit.

There is no good reason to close Guantanamo.

Obama is lying.

America Scores “Own Goal” on Jihadis Released from Gitmo

posted by Christopher W. Holton

This is absolutely revolting. The Obama administration has been careening head-long to shut down the prison facility at Guantanamo Bay, even if it means replenishing the leadership of sworn Jihadist enemies of the United States.

And that isn’t at all lost on those enemies. Whereas the Left in the West has been promoting the outright lie that Guantanamo is used by the Jihadists to recruit, here we have a bit of stark reality.

Far from using imprisoned Jihadists to recruit, Al Qaeda is using a monster that Obama released from the prison as the centerpiece of their propaganda. Had Ibrahim al Qosi not been released, would anyone have heard of him? Would Al Qaeda be featuring him in its video releases?

Of course not.

We are being lied to and our enemies are using those lies to capitalize on the weakness of our leaders.

Ex-Guantanamo detainee prominently featured in al Qaeda propaganda:

Lies about Guantanamo…

Ibrahim al-Qosi, shown here in U.S. custody...before Obama released him to become a leader of the global Jihad movement.

There is so much disinformation spreading around about the facility housing Jihadist terrorists at the U.S. naval base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba that one hardly knows where to begin.

The most widespread lie is the myth that Guantanamo is a key recruiting tool for the global Jihad movement.

That was NEVER true and it is not true today.

This is a classic example of the “Big Lie,” in which government officials repeat a preposterous lie often enough and loud enough that it eventually becomes taken for granted as truth, first by the corrupt, recalcitrant media, and eventually by the ignorant populous as a whole.

Jihadists recruit based on their successes, not their failures. Guantanamo is not a Jihadi success story.

Examples of the things that Jihadists actually have used to recruit are:

• The defeat of the Soviet Union in Afghanistan.

• The September 11th, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States.

• The withdrawal of U.S. forces from Iraq and the subsequent rise of the Islamic State.

• Successful attacks, especially IED and sniper attacks, on U.S. and coalition forces in Iraq and Afghanistan.

• Brutal torture and executions of captives by the Islamic State, Al Qaeda, Boko Haram and other Jihadist organizations.

• The 2000 attack on the USS Cole in Aden harbor in Yemen.

• Attacks on transportation facilities in Russia, Spain and the United Kingdom.

• The Paris terror attacks of 2015.

• The re-emergence of the Taliban in Afghanistan, made possible by the withdrawal from the battlefield of NATO and U.S. forces.

All of these themes can be seen in Jihadi videos released over and over by Jihadi groups around the world. What is distinctly absent is any use of Gitmo in Jihadist propaganda videos.

Despite this, as recently as two weeks ago, President Obama called the closing of the Gitmo facility as the key component of his counterterrorism plan.

What this means is that Obama HAS NO COUNTERTERRORISM PLAN. And the reason he has no counterterrorism plan is that his heart is simply not in this fight. His passionless, delayed, plodding response to events in Garland, Chattanooga and San Bernardino make this painfully clear.

Saying that closing Gitmo is counterterrorism strategy is similar to saying that Jihadist terrorism from the Philippines to Scandinavia, and from California to Nigeria is caused by global warming…er…climate change…or whatever they’re calling it du jour.

Perhaps the starkest example, however, of Obama’s outright lies about Guantanamo are those told about Ibrahim al-Qosi.

Ibrahim al-Qosi is a former Guantanamo inmate who was released by Obama in 2012 who has now emerged as a leader of Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP).

Obama claimed that only “low-level” terrorists were being released from Gitmo, but al-Qosi is anything but. AQAP is focused on attacking the West and just days ago al-Qosi, who we had in our custody, appeared on a video urging followers to attack the U.S. and France, particularly New York and Paris.

Releasing barbaric savages from Gitmo is a bad idea. Closing Gitmo is a worse idea. Telling lies for years in support of such dubious objectives is outrageous.

More on Ibrahim al-Qosi from Rowan Scarborough of the Washington Times…

The Gitmo Insanity Continues

The US government just released another Al Qaeda Jihadist to the custody of Saudi Arabia.

The United States said on Tuesday it had transferred Abdul Shalabi, a longtime hunger striker at the Guantanamo Bay prison and described as a bodyguard for former al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, to his home country of Saudi Arabia.

Note that there are no doubts whatsoever about who and what Abdul Shalabi is. He is a hardened Jihadi, a member of Al Qaeda and a close associate of Osama Bin Laden.

This was no case of mistaken identity. Shalabi was no innocent pilgrim taken prisoner because he happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time. He is a member of a terrorist organization that formally declared war on the United States and which is still at war with the United States.

And Obama, in his misguided desire to close the prison at Guantanamo Bay, has released him to a country whose role in the formation and support of Al Qaeda, including the September 11 attacks, has been concealed from the American people, most likely because Al Qaeda could not exist without money from wealthy Saudis and numerous Saudi recruits–including former members of the Saudi military and national guard–throughout its ranks.

No wonder the recidivism rate among former Gitmo prisoners is on the order of 20% to 30%.

Instead of closing Gitmo, we should be opening more such facilities in places like Midway Island, Wake Island and other isolated spots, so that we can lock away more Jihadis and throw away the key.

Chuck Hagel is Weak on Jihad and Terrorism

By Christopher Holton

President Obama has selected one of the worst possible candidates imaginable to become Secretary of Defense. Chuck Hagel has a history of being weak on Jihad and terrorism, the greatest threat to American lives and national security today.

Hagel’s nomination should become a “teaching moment.” Just because someone served honorably in the uniform of the United States military or has an “R” instead of a “D” after his name, does not automatically mean that the person is strong on national security policy.

Chuck Hagel is as bad on the threat of Jihadist terrorism as anyone in America. Not only has he been on the wrong side of votes on the issue, but his votes demonstrate a lack of commitment on the issue, as well a tendency to enable Jihad:

• Wrong on Iraq

A graphic depiction of the impact of the surge on Al Qaeda in Iraq

A graphic depiction of the impact of the surge on Al Qaeda in Iraq

Initially, then-Senator Hagel voted in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom to overthrow Saddam Hussein from power in Iraq. But when the insurgency did not go so well, Hagel flip-flopped and called for a withdrawal of US troops in just 120 days back in 2007.

Had such a policy been implemented, Al Qaeda and other Jihadist elements would have emerged victorious in Iraq and the US would have been seen as clearly losing Iraq to Al Qaeda. This would have energized Al Qaeda and given it the biggest recruiting boost since the September 11th, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States homeland. This would have essentially allowed the global jihad to morph at an accelerated rate.

Then, when the US announced the surge counteroffensive in Iraq, Senator Hagel said it would be “the most dangerous foreign policy blunder in this country since Vietnam, if it’s carried out.”

Hagel is clearly no military strategist. The surge broke the back of the insurgency, drastically reduced the violence in Iraq and allowed the US to draw down its force levels in a secure manner.

To be sure, Iraq is no utopia today, but violence levels there are no where near what they were during the insurgency and, most importantly, Al Qaeda was denied victory in Iraq due to the surge.

Wrong on Hezbollah

In 2006 Hagel was one of a just 11 senators who refused to sign a letter urging the European Union to designate Hezbollah a terrorist organization. Hezbollah not only killed 241 Marines, soldiers and sailors in Beirut, Lebanon on 23 October 1983, they also kidnapped and murdered US Marine Colonel William Higgins in 1988 when he was on UN Peacekeeping duty. More recently, Hezbollah was active in fighting US GIs in Iraq and Hezbollah members captured, tortured and killed US GIs in Iraq.

Wrong on Iran

Iranian "art" in Tehran

Iranian “art” in Tehran

Chuck Hagel has a shamefully weak record on Iran, the world’s foremost state sponsor of Jihadist terrorism and a serial proliferator of weapons of mass destruction and ballistic missiles.

His weakness on Iran goes way back to August of 2001 when he was one of just two US Senators to vote against renewal of the Iran-Libya Sanctions Act. The Iran-Libya Sanctions Act was set up to punish entities for investing in Iranian or Libyan petroleum industries, aiming to prevent Tehran or Tripoli from gaining petroleum profits that could be used to develop or acquire weapons of mass destruction or to finance terrorism.

In September 2007, Hagel voted against designating the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist entity. 76 Senators voted for the bill in an overwhelming bipartisan vote.

In July 2008, Hagel voted in the Senate Banking Committee against legislation imposing sanctions on countries conducting certain business with Iran. The legislation passed 19-2.

In October 2008 Hagel single-handedly killed Senator Gordon Smith’s (R-Oregon) S.970 Iran Counter-Proliferation Act, a bill that had 71 co-sponsors, 36 Republican and 35 Democrat. This act would have strengthened the Iran-Libya Sanctions Act (now referred to simply as the Iran Sanctions Act).

Chuck Hagel: Wrong for America

Leftist pundits are creating a straw man argument by promoting the meme that only the “Jewish lobby” is opposed to Hagel because of his record of not supporting Israel.

This dishonest tactic is merely meant as a smokescreen to mask Hagel’s shamefully weak, longstanding record on Jihad and terrorism primarily directed against the United States and its citizens.

Call and write your Senator and tell him/her to oppose the nomination of Chuck Hagel as Secretary of Defense. America cannot afford to have someone as weak on Jihadist terrorism as Chuck Hagel.

Ongoing Osama Bin Laden Slaying Thread

By now all of our readers are aware of the fact that Navy SEALs killed Osama Bin Laden over the weekend in a daring raid in Pakistan.

Rather than rehash what is already being reported, TTB will establish an ongoing thread on this monumental event, with links to news articles and analysis from around the world:

Philip Klein at the Washington Examiner points out the years of work, hunting, training and rehearsals that went into accomplishing the mission of taking out Bin Laden. It is also important to point out that if not for the detention center at Guantanomo Bay, Cuba and enhanced interrogation techniques, both of which President Obama has opposed, we’d have never gotten close to finding Bin Laden:

Some time after Sept. 11, detainees held by the U.S. told interrogators about a man believed to work as a courier for bin Laden, senior administration officials said. The man was described by detainees as a protégé of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, and “one of the few Al Qaeda couriers trusted by bin laden.”

Two years ago, intelligence officials began to identify areas of Pakistan where the courier and his brother operated, and the great security precautions the two men took aroused U.S. suspicions.

While the two brothers, the couriers, had no known source of income, the compound was built in 2005 and valued at $1 million.

After exploring every angle for months, they concluded that all signs pointed to this being bin Laden’s residence.

Here are some articles with brief introductions to SEAL Team 6, also known as DEVGROUP, the unit that carried out the mission that killed Bin Laden:

From the same source, here is a Timeline for the operation to kill Bin Laden:

Here is an article with some thoughts on how Al Qaeda may retaliate against the US for killing Bin Laden. It lists possible categories of targets. We think some of the targets are certainly likely, but that this list may not go far enough, given what we know of Al Qaeda’s prior plans. There is reason to be worried about shopping malls for instance. Security breaches at chemical and bio facilities seem remote, but attacks on petrochemical refineries and similar facilities would certainly be a concern. The article also assumes that airports and airliners are off the target list, though Al Qaeda’s history suggests they will keep trying in this sector, especially after the successful attack in an airport terminal in Moscow not long ago. We have airliners bottled up tight, but there is no security to speak of in airport terminals, where large numbers of passengers have to stand in line and are vulnerable. Then there are sporting events and music concerts. Jihadists attacked a group in Africa watching the World Cup on TV last year. Not a great article, but not a total waste of time either…

Here is a similar article from ABC News, including a report that a US Marine NBC (Nuclear, Biological, Chemical) Warfare unit has been urgently recalled from Japan. This indicates that there is at least some concern that Al Qaeda or its allies could have a WMD capability of some sort…

The US Department of Homeland Security has issued an advisory about potential retaliation, though it includes scant few details:

One of the most promising aspects of the Bin Laden raid is the potential treasure trove of intelligence captured. No doubt, Al Qaeda operatives and supporters around the globe are holding their breath and scrambling because they can’t be certain if the next knock on the door, or the next helicopter that passes by, could be some of America’s finest come to bring down death and destruction on them…

CBS News has also published a story on one intriguing aspect of this event, namely that waterboarding at Gitmo produced the initial intelligence that made it possible to track down Bin Laden. It is entirely possible–in fact LIKELY–that had Khalid Sheikh Mohammed not been waterboarded, we’d still be guessing where Bin Laden is today. And had he, and other Al Qaeda terrorists, not been classified as enemy combatants and housed in detention at Gitmo, they would never have undergone the waterboarding in the first place. It is worth noting that President Obama is now taking credit for an operation that could never have occurred had he had his way with regard to Gitmo and “enhanced interrogation” techniques…techniques which we no longer employ by the way…

Another article that credits “enhanced interrogation techniques” for uncovering the intelligence that enabled US forces to find and kill Bin Laden–Obama has ended the use of those techniques…

Now we have an article from The Telegraph in Great Britain that alerts us to the reality that Al Qaeda will not be stopped by Bin Laden’s death. The organization has been franchising itself globally for some time. It even suggests that Bin Laden was never fully in control of the global Jihadist movement, something that TTB definitely agrees with:

In fact, Al Qaeda has affiliates around the world now and tomorrow’s Al Qaeda leaders may comes from several affiliated terrorist organizations:

The next two articles are sad reminders of the tens of thousands of lives Osama Bin Laden’s evil touched through violent Jihad. Back in August of 1998, hundreds of people were killed in East Africa in what was, up to that point, Al Qaeda’s bloodiest attack. Then in 2002, Al Qaeda struck in Bali, Indonesia, killing hundreds of mostly Australian tourists…

We find the whole emphasis on handling the monster Bin Laden’s remains according to “Islamic tradition” to be troubling as hell. It was almost as if we were showing respect for a mass murderer. Had he been any religion other than Islam there would have been no thought or mention of the religious aspects of how his remains were to be treated. The SEALs do the heavy lifting while the geeks continue to insist that we chase our tails.

National Journal has aerial photos of Bin Laden’s hideout in Pakistan. Hard to believe the Pakistani military didn’t know he was there…

It’s almost impossible to believe that the Pakistani military didn’t know where Bin Laden was. The available evidence suggests that they were harboring him…

Now that Bin Laden is dead, his sympathizers and allies are making threats. In Great Britain, a guy who really needs to be in prison, Anjem Choudary, has predicted another “7/7” attack as a result of Bin Laden’s death…

As a result of veiled and overt threats, we are seeing examples of increased security and warnings from terrorism experts.

There are very visible signs of increased security in New York and Washington, the two targets of the September 11th attacks:

Logan Airport in Boston was one of the airports transited by the September 11th hijackers a decade ago. Today, that airport has instituted tighter security precautions:

There is understandably widespread euphoria across America about Bin Laden’s demise, unfortunately, the Jihadist’s death may not make us any safer. This analysis comes from Steve Emerson’s Investigative Project on Terrorism:

That threat could come from “lone wolf” terrorists as much as from al-Qaida followers. In recent years, bin Laden has been viewed more as an iconic figure for al-Qaida rather than the controlling hand he enjoyed before the 9/11 attacks. The group has split into smaller, autonomous cells and networks, and its ubiquitous Internet presence reaches

In February, U.S. intelligence officials identified Yemen-based American-born cleric Anwar al-Awlaki as a bigger threat than bin Laden. Fort Hood shooter Nidal Hasan and attempted Times Square bomber Faisal Shahzad are among those Awlaki communicated with or inspired. During his sentencing, Shahzad defiantly told the court he tried to wage war against America because he believed the country was at war with Islam.

Meanwhile, a series of plots by homegrown radical Islamists were prevented only because of pro-active sting operations initiated by the FBI.

To close out this posting for 2 May, Jihadists around the world are making threats to avenge Bin Laden:

Jihadists in the Philippines have declared Bin Laden a martyr:

Hamas has condemned the killing of Bin Laden:

The Taliban have vowed to avenge Bin Laden’s death:

Less well-known Jihadis have chimed in on Bin Laden’s death too:

TOP 10 JIHADI MOSQUES: Wikileaks Documents Reveal Main Mosques Used to Recruit, Train for Jihad According to Pentagon

Wikileaks has revealed a US report on Guantanamo terrorist prisoners called the “Matrix of Threat Indicators for Enemy Combatants.”

You will see this document written up in dozens of articles in the media and the blogosphere over the next few days.

We wanted to call attention to one list that has come out of that report: a list of foreign mosques and Islamic centers that are used to recruit and train Jihadis. Note that this list does not include mosques here in the US which, beyond a shadow of a doubt, are also centers for Jihad recruitment. This list is not meant to be exhaustive, but it does purport to be the largest centers of Jihadi activity.

This should serve as a stark warning for those among us who still insist that Jihadist organizations like Al Qaeda and their followers are not embedded in religion…

• Al Sunnah Al Nabawiah Mosque Montreal, Canada

• Abu Bakr Islamic University Karachi, Pakistan

• Makki Mosque Karachi, Pakistan

• Al Khair Mosque Sanaa, Yemen

• Dimaj Institute in Sadah, Yemen

• Finsbury Park Mosque Great Britain

• Four Feathers Youth Club Great Britain

• Laennec Mosque Lyon, France

• Islamic Cultural Institute  Milan, Italy

• Wazir Akbar Khan Mosque Kabul, Afghanistan

Mosques in places like Pakistan and Yemen certainly come as no surprise. The ones in Great Britain, France, Italy and Canada are much more worrisome for those of us who live in the West. It might also be noted that no Saudi mosques or Islamic centers are mentioned, no doubt due to a lack of intelligence. There is certainly no shortage of Saudi Jihadis in the world and they had to be recruited somewhere…

Ex-Gitmo Detainee Ahmed Ghailani Cleared of All but One Charge in U.S. Embassy Bombings

Ahmed Ghailani was found not guilty on all but one charge Wednesday by a civilian jury in New York.

Ghailani was acquitted on 224 murder charges in connection with the 1998 bombings of the U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania. He was found guilty for only one charge of conspiracy to destroy government buildings.(So he did take part in the operation to blow up the buildings in which the 224 people died, but he only gets punished for destroying the buildings.)

The judge had earlier decided that a star witness would not be allowed to testify because of coercive techniques that were used to get the witness’ name from Ghailani.

(The judge is a traitor.)

The Latest from NEFA Foundation: Operation Gibraltar: A Foiled Al-Qaida Plot Against NATO Ships

The absolutely indispensable NEFA foundation has produced another important report, this one on a failed Al Qaeda plot to attack NATO naval ships in the strait of Gibraltar, not unlike the attack on the USS Cole.

Though this plot took place back in 2002, it is important not just from an historical perspective, but also in other ways. It demonstrates the far reach of Al Qaeda and the lengths that they will go to to attempt to attack the West. Note also that the plot was foiled as a result of questioning of suspects as…gasp…Guantanamo Bay, Cuba…

Former Gitmo detainee, “Yo Mo” al Shihri, killed in a shootout

If one were to believe what many on the Left in America say, the inmates at the prison facility at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba are nothing but innocent pilgrims and goat herders who all ended up in the wrong place at the wrong time.

But an inconvenient truth of the prison population that has gone through that highly effective prison facility is the fact that no fewer than 61 former residents have been captured or killed on the field of battle waging Jihad after their release. And we should emphasize that those 61 are the ones we know about.

The latest is a distinguished gentleman named Yousef Mohammed al Shihri. This innocent shepherd (we’ll call him “Yo Mo” for short) was no doubt improperly incarcerated by the evil American empire after being snatched from his benevolent wanderings in beautiful, picturesque Afghanistan several years ago.

“Yo Mo” won his freedom from Gitmo with the capable help of Saudi authorities and went on, evidently, to pursue his true calling as a transgender wanderer in the deserts of Yemen, after having gone through the Sauds’ highly successful Jihadi rehab program. (By highly successful, we mean successful at sending terrorists back to their chosen profession.)

In Yemen, Yo Mo, dressed as a woman, was gunned down by authorities, no doubt without any justification whatsoever.

If a Jihadi gets wacked while wearing women’s clothes, when he gets to paradise, are his 72 virgins male or female?

These are the vital questions which we need answers to!

The great folks at The Long War Journal have the real story.
