Al Qaeda advises Libyan Insurgents to Stockpile Weapons to Establish an Islamic State

Terrorist organizations affiliated with Al Qaeda are advising Libyan insurgents to stockpile weapons in preparation for the post-Gaddafi phase, saying the war in Libya is expected to continue even after the fall of the current regime.

  • Six terrorist groups affiliated with Al Qaeda called on insurgents who want to create an Islamic emirate in Libya to take steps and be ready for after Gaddafi, adding that the next enemy will be the pro-Western Libyan opposition.
Libyans have long played a prominent role in Al Qaeda. The Libyan Islamic Fighting Group (LIFG) trained in Afghanistan during the Taliban regime and supported the Taliban in a number of ways during the 1990s, in return for the Taliban granting them safe haven.
Some claim that a Libyan named Abu Yahya al-Libi will be the successor to Osama Bin Laden to lead Al Qaeda. Yahya Al-Libi actually was captured in Afghanistan but escaped from US custody at Baghram air base in July 2005.
Another prominent Libyan who has been involved with Al Qaeda and the Taliban is Abu Laith al-Libi. This terrorist was arrested in Saudi Arabia in the crackdown following the Khobar Towers bombing in 1995, but, like so many Jihadis, he managed to escape from prison and ended up in Afghanistan, where he became a spokesman for Taliban leader Mullah Omar.
Finally, a Libyan named Atiyah Abd al-Rahman was also a member of LIFG and was imprisoned in Algeria in the 1990s. By 2000, either by escape or being set free, al-Rahman ended up in Afghanistan and became a part of Al Qaeda’s leadership cadre. He reportedly remains near the top of Al Qaeda today and is said to handle the organization’s liason with global Jihadist organizations and Iran.
The point of all this is that there are many Libyans–some of them quite prominent–who are active in Jihad and who very likely are involved in the new insurgency in Libya…the insurgency that NATO and the Obama administration have decided to support…

Saudi Al Qaeda leader killed by Russian security forces in Chechnya

A Saudi national said to be the North Caucasus point man of Al Qaeda and the brain behind spate of suicide attacks in Russia was killed by security forces in the country’s restive province of Chechnya, officials said. The militant only known by his nom-de-guerre of Moganned who had been eluding Russian forces for over three years was killed along with two other militants in a shootout in the village of Serzhen-Yurt in Shali district of Chechnya, during a search operation, Russia’s anti-terrorism agency announced. Along with Chechen militant leader Doku Umrav, Moganned was the most wanted terrorist in the region. “One of the militants eliminated has been identified as the main emissary of International Terrorist Organisation, Al Qaeda in the northern Caucasus, a citizen of Saudi Arabia by the name of Moganned”, the agency said. “Almost all acts of terror using suicide bombers in the last few years were prepared with the involvement of the Saudi national”, it said. Russia has been rocked by an airport bombing that killed 37 in January this year and twin suicide metro bombings last year which killed more than 40 people.

Lebanese News Website: Hezbollah intends to attack Western targets

According to the Lebanese news website, the Beirut Observer, the Jihadist terrorist organization Hezbollah is planning to attack Western targets. The site based  its report on information obtained by a “Western intelligence agency” that intercepted message traffic to that effect.

The Observer reported that unnamed Western intelligence officials think that Hezbollah plans to attack Western targets, based  on unusual movement of suspected Hezbollah and Iranian Revolutionary Guards operatives.

The article claimed that the goal of the attack would be to distract global public opinion from indictments expected to be handed down by a special UN tribunal investigating the 2005 assassination of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri.

Rafik Hariri

It has been widely speculated that the UN tribunal will accuse Hezbollah members of involvement in the huge bomb attack on Hariri’s motorcade.

According to the Israeli news site Haaretz, earlier this week Israel’s counter terrorism bureau issued a warning that terrorists intended to carry out attacks against Israelis and Jewish targets abroad, specifying India, Thailand, Greece and Turkey as areas where an attack could take place. It is not known if the Israeli bulletin is related to the report on Hezbollah from the Beirut Observer.

Al Qaeda is known to be active in Turkey, where anti-Israeli sentiment has been on the rise for some time as Islamists expand and consolidate their political power. In addition to Hezbollah, Al Qaeda or other Turkish Jihadist groups could be motivated to attack Israeli or Jewish targets in Turkey.

Of course, India has been inflicted with a virtual menagerie of Jihadist terrorist groups, both domestic and from neighboring Pakistan. Lashkar-e-Taiba pulled off the spectacular Mumbai attacks targeting Jewish targets, but it is far from the only group operating in India, any of which could be prompted to attack Israeli or Jewish targets in India, either of their own volition or in the service of allied organizations.

Thailand has been wracked by a Jihadist insurgency for years in its southern regions. The Thai Jihadists are somewhat of an enigma and their ties to other Jihadist groups are unclear, but Thailand is an enormously popular tourist destination for Israeli and European tourists.

There is known to be Al Qaeda activity in Greece and Al Qaeda operatives have been apprehended there.

What all this adds up to is we could be talking about one threat or two distinct threats, one reported by the Beirut Observer from Hezbollah and another from Israeli authorities from unnamed terrorists in the four nations mentioned.

The possibility of Hezbollah launching attacks against the West in either Europe or the US has long been a deep concern for national security and counterterrorism practitioners. Hezbollah has been in existence for a decade longer than Al Qaeda and has been amply funded and equipped by Iran. Hezbollah is a much larger organization than Al Qaeda and is known to have cells, operatives and sympathizers spread throughout the world, including Asia, Europe and North and South America. Hezbollah has been referred to as the “A” team of Jihadist terrorism and Al Qaeda the “B” team. In fact Hezbollah trained Al Qaeda terrorists in Sudan during the 1990s.

Hezbollah is uniquely qualified to carry out terrorist attacks in the West. Such an attack would certainly not be unprecedented.

Hezbollah is believed to have carried out two bomb attacks in Argentina against the Israeli embassy in 1992 and at a Jewish Community Center in 1994. More than 120 innocent civilians were killed in those attacks. The attacks are also believed to have been carried out with Iranian support.

This makes sense since Hezbollah receives funding, arms and training from Iran, especially through Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps.

An example of suspicious Iranian activity in support of possible terrorist strikes occurred in New York back from 2002 to 2006 when members of the Iranian UN mission were repeatedly caught by the NYPD for conducting obvious reconnaissance of New York landmarks and subways.

We can be sure that, when and if Hezbollah or Iran decide to strike in the West, the targets were already selected and prepped by operatives in place long before the attack occurs.

Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula Reported to Be Close to Launching Terror Attack

Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), the Al Qaeda affiliate in Yemen may be close to launching a terrorist attack, according to US intelligence agencies…

The threat from AQAP comes as counterterrorism operations in Yemen have evidently been interrupted by mass demonstrations against the 32-year rule of President Ali Abdullah Saleh.

US officials have articulated worries that the unrest sweeping the Arab world could hinder counterterrorism efforts.

Evidence Mounts of Jihadi Involvement in Libyan Rebel Forces

More and more, we are seeing evidence that the rebel forces that NATO has intervened on behalf of are Islamist Jihadis, some with links to Al Qaeda with some of those being veterans of the war against US forces in Iraq and Afghanistan…We have collected a series of articles on this subject matter for our readers’ review:

Decoding Libya

by Andrew McCarthy

It has come to light in just the last few days that commanders of the “rebels” (you know, those secular freedom fighters who are supposedly better for us than Qaddafi) include one Abdul-Hakim al-Hasadi. And, I’ll be darned, it turns out that Hasadi is a jihadist who fought the United States in Afghanistan, and was detained for years until our forces turned him over to Libya.

Why is Obama Helping Al-Qaeda Terrorists Overthrow Gaddafi?

By Jim Hoft

A 2007 West Point study showed that the Benghazi-Darnah-Tobruk region in Libya was a world leader in Al Qaeda suicide bomber recruitment.

The leader of the Libyan rebel forces fought against the US in Afghanistan until he was captured in 2002. He also admitted that his fighters have Al-Qaeda links.

The Jihad Threat on the Southern U.S. Border

The web site Policeone.com has a good article on a subject that has come up from time to time but has not received enough attention: Jihadist terrorists operating along America’s border with Mexico.

This is an issue that has been known to US policymakers and officials for several years now. Back in 2006, in testimony before the US Congress, the director of the FBI acknowledged a Hezbollah presence on the southern border:

More recently, Congresswoman Sue Myrick, head of the Counterterrorism Caucus, detailed in the Washington Times about a case currently before a federal court in New York involving a Hezbollah cell in Mexico:

In fact, there is a lengthy history of Jihadist activity involving Mexico and the border:

The PoliceOne article, by Doug Wyllie, goes into great detail, especially on the tactical level, about the threat from Jihad on America’s vulnerable southern border (pay especially close attention to the video on the PoliceOne page):

Terrorism Threat Forces Closure of Reichstag in Berlin

The UK Telegraph reports that the famous Berlin Reichstag has been closed to visitors as a result of the terror threat that has been reported on extensively over the past week or so. Reports have generally indicated that one of the potential scenarios that German authorities are prepping for is a Mumbai-style attack.

Numerous holy warriors raised in Germany have been filtering back into the country in recent months following spells in training camps in Pakistan.

Spiegel reported that the informant who triggered the Berlin scare repeatedly telephoned police from a foreign location in recent days, asking the authorities to help him return to his family in Germany.

He said the terrorist cell consisted of six people, of whom two had arrived in Berlin weeks ago. Four other militants – including a German, a Turk and a northern African – were still waiting to travel to Germany.

The attacks were seemingly planned for February or March 2011, and modelled on the November 2008 attacks in Mumbai, in which 175 people died when Islamist militants attacked a series of high- profile hotels, a train station and Jewish centre. Now it appears they have been brought forward.

The FBI in America alerted German recently that a Shi’ite Indian group called Saif (Sword), had aligned itself with Al Quaeda and two of their men were due to travel from the United Arab Emirates to Germany in coming days.

Note in the report linked the apparent collaboration between Al Qaeda and a previously unknown Shiite Jihadist group from India…

Al Qaeda’s Dr. Ayman al-Zawahiri Justifies WMD Terrorist Attacks With The Quran and a Hadith

Al Qaeda’s leaders yearn to acquire and use weapons of mass destruction against the United States; if they acquired a nuclear bomb, they would not hesitate to use it.

The evidence for those intentions aren’t hidden in encoded communications or classified intelligence. Quite the opposite: They’re hidden in plain sight. Just as Osama bin Laden issued a fatwa to declare war on the United States in 1998, his deputy, Ayman al-Zawahiri, issued a fatwa a decade later to herald a prospective next stage in the conflict. If we take him at his word, some day jihadists will use weapons of mass destruction to change history once and for all.

Of course, al Qaeda leaders have spoken of acquiring weapons of mass destruction for well over a decade. They have had little observable success in achieving their goals of producing a nuclear bomb or biological weapon capable of producing mass casualties. Fortunately, it is extremely difficult, but not impossible, for a terrorist group to acquire a strategic weapon of mass destruction (WMD). Nonetheless, the al Qaeda core has kept at it over the years, in the hopes that time and opportunity will enable it to overcome the daunting challenges in this regard.

What has changed recently is that the goal is no longer theoretical, but operational — a change spurred by Zawahiri’s intervention. Rather than follow bin Laden in issuing a religious edict, Zawahiri chose to release a book in 2008 titled Exoneration. In it, he resurrects a fatwa issued by senior Saudi cleric Nasir al-Fahd in May 2003 — notoriously, the only such treatise that ever endorsed the use of WMD. Zawahiri adopts Fahd’s ideas wholesale. He uses the same ideas, thoughts, examples, and scholarly citations to reach the same conclusion: The use of nuclear weapons would be justified as an act of equal retaliation, “repaying like for like.”

Zawahiri raises key Quranic themes to sweep away all potential objections to the use of WMD. He offers answers to questions about the legality of killing women, children, and the elderly; the justice of environmental destruction; the morality of harming noncombatants; the tactical prudence of attacking at night; and analyses of deterrence. Zawahiri adopts Fahd’s examples verbatim: The Prophet Mohammed’s attack on the village of al-Taif using a catapult, for instance, permits the use of weapons of “general destruction” incapable of distinguishing between innocent civilians and combatants.

Possible Bomb Intercepted on German Airliner in Namibia

Germany has been the subject of multiple warnings and alerts involving Jihad in recent days and weeks. Today we are greeted with the news that a German airliner had a bomb on board in the southwest African nation of Namibia. Al Qaeda’s reach is long and the West continues to benefit from good fortune as these bombs continue to be found before they detonate.

Police have found a suspected bomb in a package bound for Germany at an airport in Namibia.

The Air Berlin flight carrying over 300 passengers and crew from the Namibian capital Windhoek to Munich, Germany was delayed after police found the “unlabeled” parcel.

According to Germany’s Federal Criminal Police, a scan of the parcel showed batteries attached by wires to a fuse and a clock.

German security officials are assessing whether the device was “a fake bomb” or could have actually detonated. If it turns out that this was a dummy device, it could very well have been a dry run…
