Another Islamikaze Attack in Volgograd

w3-russiabomb2-a-20131231-870x520

The Jihadists struck again overnight in Volgograd, this time on a trolley bus. 14 are dead and 30 injured.

Most of the casualties were people on their way to work or college students on their way to school. Reports indicate that Russians are now avoiding transit vehicles altogether due to the Jihadist threat…

Russian authorities said the same type of bomb was used in both the rail station attack and the trolley bus attack in Volgograd. There’s widespread speculation the attacks were the work of Chechen Jihadi terrorist leader Doku Umarov, who has claimed responsibility for suicide bombings in Moscow in 2010 and 2011 that left a combined 77 people dead.

^^^Here is Doku Umarov^^^

Umarov has declared the Olympic Games to be “satanic” and claims that the Jihadists must do everything in their power to prevent them.

Russian security measures in Sochi are said to be extraordinary, but clearly other major cities and transportation hubs in Russia are vulnerable. Umarov may have decided that the best way to disrupt the games in Sochi is to make traveling in Russia dangerous. Russia’s second city of Saint Petersburg has cancelled its planned New Year fireworks display.

Here is a chilling eyewitness account of the Volgograd train station bombing. Note that most of the victims seem to have been bunched up in the cue waiting at the security checkpoint…

http://www.rferl.org/content/volgograd-blast/25216616.html?

Other than to order heightened security, Russia’s Vladimir Putin has stayed silent on the attacks. This is not unusual for him. In the wake of the Beslan school massacre in 2004, Putin was largely silent and declined to meet with the families of the victims.

Putin has a reputation as a tough guy, but Russia has been repeatedly targeted by Jihadists on his watch and his response has mainly been to consolidate his own power, rather than to act forcefully against the Jihadists.

UPDATED Islamikaze Jihad in Volgograd: Complete Coverage and Analysis from Around the World

SCCZEN_AP131230012807_620x310

This morning a female Islamikaze bomber struck a rail station in Volgograd, Russia, killing at least 16 people.

For hours there was scant coverage of this Jihadi attack in the US news media, but foreign news organizations did manage to fit in coverage of the event.

The Belfast Telegraph from the UK had a report, including video footage of the detonation of the bomb:

http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news/world-news/russia-suicide-bomb-shocking-video-shows-train-station-blast-which-left-at-least-15-dead-29873499.html

Note from the Telegraph report that the Jihadi appeared to detonate the bomb as she approached a metal detector at a security checkpoint:

A spokesman for the nation’s top investigative agency said the bomb appeared to have been detonated as the attacker approached a metal detector at the entrance to the central railway hub in the city of Volgograd.

This is not the first time Jihadists have targeted a transportation hub in Russia. A few years ago they detonated a bomb in a Moscow airport terminal. It should also be pointed out that the FBI intercepted a plot earlier this month in Wichita, Kansas in which a Jihadi sought to bomb an airport terminal.

The point here is that, as security services seek to tighten access to airplanes and trains, which have been targeted in the past, they are creating massive bottlenecks in passenger terminals, particularly at the security checkpoints that are ostensibly there to keep travelers safe. As a result, the Jihadis now target the lines of travelers in the passenger terminals themselves.

We have blogged about this in the past and it seems that security services have no answer at this point for this new Jihadi tactic:

http://terrortrendsbulletin.com/2012/11/13/airliner-security-leaves-travelers-more-vulnerable-in-airports/

While our 13 November 2012 post focused on airport security, the same clearly applies to rail security, as was so tragically demonstrated in Russia this morning.

Mediaite points out that this attack comes just six weeks before the Olympics are due to open in Sochi, Russia. Jihadists have in fact threatened the Olympics.

http://www.mediaite.com/online/intense-footage-shows-bomb-detonating-in-russian-train-station/?

Volgograd is in the southern part of Russia:

russia-moscow-volgograd-map

Sochi, site of the Olympics is not terribly far from Volgograd:

Be advised the legend and graphics have no meaning for the present situation. Map is shown strictly to show proximity of Volgograd, site of Jihadist attack today, to Sochi, site of Summer Olympic Games in 6 weeks.

Be advised the legend and graphics have no meaning for the present situation. Map is shown strictly to show proximity of Volgograd, site of Jihadist attack today, to Sochi, site of Summer Olympic Games in 6 weeks.

Note also that both Volgograd and, rather ominously, Sochi, are quite close to Chechnya and Dagestan, two hotbeds of the global Islamic insurgency:

_51331385_sochi_russia_2_11

Volgograd was once called Stalingrad. There are now conflicting reports that the Islamikaze bomber may have been a man, not a woman, or that the woman may have had a male accomplice. Note that the cited source for these contradictory reports are Russian law enforcement agencies, something that isn’t terribly comforting or surprising given the circumstances:

http://www.arabtimesonline.com/NewsDetails/tabid/96/smid/414/ArticleID/202499/reftab/69/t/Female-suicide-bomber-kills-16-at-Russian-train-station/Default.aspx?

The UN Secretary General has condemned the attack (we’re sure the Jihadis are quaking in their boots over that). Note also that this is the second Islamikaze bombing in Volgograd in the past two months. Another female Islamikaze bomber blew herself up on a bus two months ago, killing 7 innocent victims and wounding scores of others.

http://www.shanghaidaily.com/article/article_xinhua.aspx?id=190412

Speaking of injuries, initial reports indicate that 45 were injured in the attack, including a 9-year old girl:

http://www.newindianexpress.com/world/Woman-Bomber-Kills-14-Injures-45-in-Russia/2013/12/30/article1972724.ece?

The Volgograd attack comes in the wake of threats by Chechen Jihadi terrorist Doku Umarov calling for new attacks against civilian targets in Russia, including the Sochi Olympic Games.

This article from the New Zealand Herald contains good detail from the Associated Press, eyewitness accounts and a historical background. It’s the best piece we’ve seen so far on the attack:

http://www.nzherald.co.nz/world/news/article.cfm?c_id=2&objectid=11179292

Note especially that Russia has been victimized numerous times in recent years by Islamikaze bombers, including females. Also included is some general information on Russia’s extraordinary security measures to protect the Olympics, including measures that would never be approved of here in the US due to trespassing on civil liberties and the overt use of military forces on a direct, wide scale, as opposed to a support capacity. Hopefully the Russian measures will prove effective once the Olympics get underway.

Russian authorities have tentatively identified the Islamikaze bomber as Oksana Aslanova, a Dagestani citizen whose husband was a Jihadi killed by Russian special operations forces. Evidently Aslanova was known to Russian authorities and she “got around,” having reportedly been married to other Jihadist terrorists as well.

http://www.examiner.com/article/russian-bombing-suicide-bombing-claims-16-lives-sparks-fear-ahead-of-olympics?

This article from The Age in Australia includes a close-up image of the entrance to the railway station. It appears that the Russians smartly placed the metal detectors at the entrance, so most of the people in the crowded station escaped injury. The article also contains more background on “black widow” Islamikaze bombers that have struck Russia. Incidentally, there was evidently a previously little-noticed car bomb in Pyatigorsk, Russia on Friday:

Finally, here is a photo of Oksana Aslanova, prime suspect in the attack:

Chuck Hagel is Weak on Jihad and Terrorism

hagel-profile-in-courage

By Christopher Holton

President Obama has selected one of the worst possible candidates imaginable to become Secretary of Defense. Chuck Hagel has a history of being weak on Jihad and terrorism, the greatest threat to American lives and national security today.

Hagel’s nomination should become a “teaching moment.” Just because someone served honorably in the uniform of the United States military or has an “R” instead of a “D” after his name, does not automatically mean that the person is strong on national security policy.

Chuck Hagel is as bad on the threat of Jihadist terrorism as anyone in America. Not only has he been on the wrong side of votes on the issue, but his votes demonstrate a lack of commitment on the issue, as well a tendency to enable Jihad:

• Wrong on Iraq

A graphic depiction of the impact of the surge on Al Qaeda in Iraq

A graphic depiction of the impact of the surge on Al Qaeda in Iraq

Initially, then-Senator Hagel voted in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom to overthrow Saddam Hussein from power in Iraq. But when the insurgency did not go so well, Hagel flip-flopped and called for a withdrawal of US troops in just 120 days back in 2007.

Had such a policy been implemented, Al Qaeda and other Jihadist elements would have emerged victorious in Iraq and the US would have been seen as clearly losing Iraq to Al Qaeda. This would have energized Al Qaeda and given it the biggest recruiting boost since the September 11th, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States homeland. This would have essentially allowed the global jihad to morph at an accelerated rate.

Then, when the US announced the surge counteroffensive in Iraq, Senator Hagel said it would be “the most dangerous foreign policy blunder in this country since Vietnam, if it’s carried out.”

Hagel is clearly no military strategist. The surge broke the back of the insurgency, drastically reduced the violence in Iraq and allowed the US to draw down its force levels in a secure manner.

To be sure, Iraq is no utopia today, but violence levels there are no where near what they were during the insurgency and, most importantly, Al Qaeda was denied victory in Iraq due to the surge.

Wrong on Hezbollah

In 2006 Hagel was one of a just 11 senators who refused to sign a letter urging the European Union to designate Hezbollah a terrorist organization. Hezbollah not only killed 241 Marines, soldiers and sailors in Beirut, Lebanon on 23 October 1983, they also kidnapped and murdered US Marine Colonel William Higgins in 1988 when he was on UN Peacekeeping duty. More recently, Hezbollah was active in fighting US GIs in Iraq and Hezbollah members captured, tortured and killed US GIs in Iraq.

Wrong on Iran

Iranian "art" in Tehran

Iranian “art” in Tehran

Chuck Hagel has a shamefully weak record on Iran, the world’s foremost state sponsor of Jihadist terrorism and a serial proliferator of weapons of mass destruction and ballistic missiles.

His weakness on Iran goes way back to August of 2001 when he was one of just two US Senators to vote against renewal of the Iran-Libya Sanctions Act. The Iran-Libya Sanctions Act was set up to punish entities for investing in Iranian or Libyan petroleum industries, aiming to prevent Tehran or Tripoli from gaining petroleum profits that could be used to develop or acquire weapons of mass destruction or to finance terrorism.

In September 2007, Hagel voted against designating the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist entity. 76 Senators voted for the bill in an overwhelming bipartisan vote.

In July 2008, Hagel voted in the Senate Banking Committee against legislation imposing sanctions on countries conducting certain business with Iran. The legislation passed 19-2.

In October 2008 Hagel single-handedly killed Senator Gordon Smith’s (R-Oregon) S.970 Iran Counter-Proliferation Act, a bill that had 71 co-sponsors, 36 Republican and 35 Democrat. This act would have strengthened the Iran-Libya Sanctions Act (now referred to simply as the Iran Sanctions Act).

Chuck Hagel: Wrong for America

Leftist pundits are creating a straw man argument by promoting the meme that only the “Jewish lobby” is opposed to Hagel because of his record of not supporting Israel.

This dishonest tactic is merely meant as a smokescreen to mask Hagel’s shamefully weak, longstanding record on Jihad and terrorism primarily directed against the United States and its citizens.

Call and write your Senator and tell him/her to oppose the nomination of Chuck Hagel as Secretary of Defense. America cannot afford to have someone as weak on Jihadist terrorism as Chuck Hagel.

Some little known facts about the views of Muslims in America

This information makes up the introductory portion of the briefing that I have been delivering around the country for the past 3 years. It is important given the mounting evidence of Muslim Brotherhood infiltration in the West, and the US in particular.

On 22 May 2007, the Pew Research Center, certainly not a “conservative” organization, published a report on a survey that they conducted of Muslims in America. The name of that report was “Muslims in America: Middle Class and Mostly Mainstream.”

Pew rolled it out as a celebration of Muslims in America. The media jumped on the bandwagon and the report was received with delight.

But there are aspects of the report which deserve more scrutiny and which Pew and the media essentially ignored in their spin during the release.

First a few background highlights:

• Pew reported that there were 2.35 million Muslims in America, including 1.4 million over the age of 18 (the target group of the survey).

This is important because the Muslim Brotherhood organizations, such as CAIR and ISNA, frequently claim that there are 5-6 million Muslims in America. President Obama parroted the bogus 5-6 million figure from the Muslim Brotherhood in his 2009 Cairo speech.

• 30% of the 1.4 million (420,000) were said to be between 18 and 29.

This is important because this is the demographic most likely to be involved in jihadist activity.

Most importantly, there were two particularly relevant questions that were buried deep in the Pew survey that Pew chose not to address or highlight in its release and rollout of the report:

Relevant Question Number 1: Can Suicide Bombing of Civilian Targets to Defend Islam be Justified?

A: Often/Sometimes: 8%

A: Rarely: 5%

A: Don’t Know/Refuse to Answer: 9%

A: Never: 78%

In other words, AT LEAST 13% of American Muslims believed that suicide bombings of civilian targets was justified at least in some circumstances.

182,000 Muslims in America over the age of 18 believed that Islamikaze bombings of civilian targets was justified at least in some circumstances.

Here is another important point: This same question was asked of Muslims under the age of 30 (the age group most associated with jihadist activity):

A: Often/Sometimes: 15%

A: Rarely: 11%

A: Don’t know/refuse to answer: 5%?

A: Never: 69%

26% or 109,200 Muslims in America between 18 and 29 believed that Islamikaze bombings of civilian targets was justified at least in some circumstances.

Relevant Question Number 2: What is your view of Al Qaeda?

A: Favorable: 5%

A: Somewhat Unfavorable: 10%

A: Don’t Know/Refuse to Answer: 27%

A: Very Unfavorable: 58%

Same questions to Muslims under 30:

A: Favorable: 7%

A: Somewhat Unfavorable: 16%

A: Don’t Know/Refuse to Answer: 19%

A: Very Unfavorable: 58%

70,000 Muslims in America admitted to having a favorable view of Al Qaeda.

29,400 Muslims in America between the ages of 18 and 29 admitted to having a favorable view of Al Qaeda.

It is particularly noteworthy that younger Muslims in America appear to be more predisposed to violent Jihad than older Muslims based upon the answers to these two questions.

Note that this survey was conducted of Muslims in America, not Muslims in Benghazi, Ramadi, Fallujah, Gaza, Cairo, Sana’a, Tehran, Kandahar, or Islamabad. The tens of thousands of Muslims that harbor these views all live in America. These numbers are staggering and frightening.

Boko Haram Islamikaze Car Bomb Kills 38 Christians Outside Easter Service in Kaduna, Nigeria

Another Christian Holy Day and another murderous attack by Jihadists in Nigeria. This time 38 Christian worshippers were killed by a vehicle-born explosive device driven into a crowded area near an Easter worship service in the Nigerian city of Kaduna.

This is part of a clear, ongoing effort by Jihadists to exterminate Christianity in Nigeria and establish an Islamic state ruled by Shariah. The Jihadist terrorist group Boko Haram also carried out a series of terrorist attacks on Christian churches on Christmas day the past two years.

Recent intelligence indicates that Boko Haram has become affiliated with Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb.

Former Argentine President to face trial for covering up for Hezbollah, Iran; Argentines to re-open investigation into 1994 Bombing

In 1994, 85 innocent civilians were killed in a bombing of a Jewish community center in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Hundreds more were wounded.

To this day, that bombing is the worst terrorist attack ever to take place on the South American continent.

The bombing is believed to have been a joint operation of Hezbollah and the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. Arrest warrants were issued in the case through Interpol for five Iranians and a Lebanese back in 2007. The Lebanese was Imad Fayez Mugniyeh, Hezbollah’s military commander. Mugniyeh lost his head and “assumed room temperature” when he was killed in Syria a couple of years ago when an explosive in the head rest of his car detonated while he was sitting in the seat.

Recently there has been a new development in the case.

Former Argentine President Carlos Menem has been indicted for obstruction of justice for diverting attention away from Iran’s role in the bombing. Evidence indicates that Menem received millions of dollars deposited in a secret Swiss bank account.

In addition to the indictment of Menem, Argentina has announced that they are opening a new investigation into the bombing.

Thrice Charged in Al Qaeda Plots and Out on Bail…

A Kenyan Muslim who once admitted that he was part of a planned Al Qaeda operation to blow up the U.S. Embassy in Nairobi is now facing charges in connection with last month’s Al Qaeda attacks in Uganda but is free on bail.

Salmin Mohammed Khamis, 34, also was acquitted in 2005 in the bombing of a beachfront hotel frequented by Israeli tourists, two years after he divulged the embassy plot. Khamis was never even charged in connection with the embassy case, despite his confession.

He was one of seven people acquitted in the 2002 Islamikaze bombing of an Israeli-owned hotel near Mombasa, Kenya in which 15 people were killed. He also was acquitted of charges in connection with a failed attempt to shoot down an Israeli passenger plane with a SA-7 man-portable surface to air missile that same day.

Uganda Jihad Attack Updates

By now, TTB readers already know that Al Qaeda-affiliated  Al Shahab operating out of Somalia is taking responsibility for the bomb attacks in Uganda which have so far claimed 74 lives. This TTB posting will include links to various updates and analyses of the attacks.

Newsweek has a pretty good, concise summary of the attack, with a video report embedded:

http://www.newsweek.com/2010/07/12/jihad-moves-into-africa-s-breadbasket.html?

Dan Morrison has a particularly lousy analysis over on Slate, in which he essentially says that Uganda brought this on itself. He has fallen into the usual trap which says that the Jihadists act in response to actions of others. The fact of the matter is, Uganda had already been impacted by the Jihadist violence in Somalia as refugees spilled over their border before they sent troops to Mogadishu to attempt to bring some semblance of stability to the failed state. For that matter, Uganda had also been impacted by Jihadist activity in Sudan similarly…

http://www.slate.com/id/2260235/?

The Telegraph points out that the Uganda attacks initially targeted Ethiopians in Uganda. It also mentions that Somalia seems to be turning into a petrie dish of Jihadi activity with terrorists streaming in from Iraq and Afghanistan. (We might also add that there is at least one Jihadi from the exotic, far-off land known as Alabama as well.) That Somalia may turn into a staging area for Jihad was a concern as long ago as 2002-2003 when US amphibious forces and German naval units initially set up offshore but did not take action and eventually withdrew from the area…

Bloomberg mentions that Burundi may be the next nation on Al Shahab’s hit list, since that nation has 2500 peacekeepers in Somalia…

CNN Editor Mourns Death of Hezbollah “Giant”–UPDATE: She’s Done

Octavia Nasr: CNN's Jihadist Terrorist Sympathizer

In what simply must be one of the more disgusting displays of sympathy for evil in recent memory, CNN’s senior editor of Middle East affairs, Octavia Nasr, a Lebanese native now enjoying the fruits of liberty as a resident of Atlanta, Georgia, released the following statement on her Twitter account upon hearing of the death of Hezbollah terrorist ideologue Ayatollah Mohammed Hussein Fadlallah:

“Sad to hear of the passing of Sayyed Mohammed Hussein Fadlallah… One of Hezbollah’s giants I respect a lot.”

Hezbollah Ideologue Grand Ayatollah Muhammad Hussein Fadlallah

First of all, Nasr’s use of the honorific title “Sayyed” is particularly telling. This is a title meant to belie esteem and is reserved for those who are thought to be descendants of the Islamic prophet mohammed.

Fadlallah was best known as the inspirational leader and key ideologue for the terrorist group Hezbollah. This makes Nasr’s admiration for him disturbing to say the least. There is no other word for it: sympathizer. Fadlallah was a Jihadist terrorist. He may not have killed with a sword, but he most assuredly inspired thousands of others to do so.

And hundreds of the victims were Americans.

Yet CNN’s Octavia Nasr “respected” him–”a lot.”

Let us examine the implications of a Hezbollah groupie in a leadership role in one of America’s largest (yet shrinking) media organizations.

Hezbollah burst onto the world scene in April 1983 when they bombed the US embassy in Beirut, Lebanon, killing 63 people, including 17 Americans.

US Embassy Beirut, Lebanon, after Hezbollah Islamikaze attack

On October 23rd, 1983, Hezbollah struck again, attacking the Marine Barracks at the Beirut International Airport, killing 241 servicemen acting as peacekeepers for the United Nations.

US Marines performing grim task of casualty evacuation after Hezbollah Islamikaze attack

In 1985, Hezbollah terrorists hijacked TWA Flight 847 and killed US Navy sailor Robert Stethem who happened to be a passenger on board.

Hezbollah continued their terrorist ways in the late 1980s with the kidnapping and murder of US Marine Colonel William Higgins, who was also on a UN mission.

Colonel William Higgins, USMC

Some people thought that Hezbollah was no longer an enemy of the USA by the time September 11th, Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom rolled around. Not so.

Though it has not received much attention, on at least two occasions, Hezbollah terrorists have been captured in Iraq fighting US forces:

http://gulfnews.com/news/region/iraq/troops-capture-top-hezbollah-officer-1.188167

http://www.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/meast/07/02/iraq.hezbollah/index.html

More recently, a long-time Hezbollah terrorist involved in the 1985 TWA 847 hijacking was killed by US forces in Pakistan, near the Afghan border…

http://www.debbieschlussel.com/23626/breaking-us-drones-kill-hezbollah-terrorist-who-murdered-stethem-hezbollah-now-working-w-taliban/

It seems the terrorist, Mohammed Ali Hamadi, upon being released from prison in Germany, decided that the thing to do was go work for the Taliban. A coincidence we’re certain…

These are the monsters that Fadlallah inspired. And CNN’s Octavia Nasr respected him…a lot.

UPDATE: Octavia Nasr gone from CNN after pro-Jihadist comments

Mediate.com obtained an internal CNN memo which says of Nasr: “We believe that her credibility in her position as senior editor for Middle Eastern affairs has been compromised.” (That’s putting it mildly to say the least.)

In a blog post expanding on her position, Nasr wrote that it “was an error of judgment for me to write such a simplistic comment and I’m sorry because it conveyed that I supported Fadlallah’s life’s work.” (It didn’t CONVEY anything. It’s what she WROTE.)

America’s Wrongheaded Approach to Jihad

In the wake of the miraculously failed Christmas day Jihadi attack over the skies of Detroit, we are starting to see our governmental mechanisms crank into gear to institute policies to prevent terrorists from attacking us successfully.

Never mind that it was that very governmental bureaucracy which enabled the Jihadists to penetrate secure areas with explosives and come close to killing 270 people on Christmas day. It was our incompetent governmental bureaucracies which granted a known Jihadi a visa to enter the United States. It was our governmental bureaucracies which let him get on an airliner without a passport. It was our governmental bureaucracies which failed to recognize classic warning signs: ticket paid for in cash, no checked luggage.

Nevertheless, Janet Napolitano, who is evidently conflicted between whether the security system worked like clockwork or failed miserably, has had her department of Homeland Security see to it that no one stands up for the last hour of any flight (an order which has evidently already been rescinded) and Transportation Security personnel are redoubling efforts to tighten access to airliners.

Meanwhile, President Obama managed to tear himself from the links to declare the terrorist an “isolated extremist,” perhaps the worst mischaracterization made by a sitting president since Richard Nixon declared himself “not a crook.” Obama then promised a dragnet to find those responsible. What complete and utter hogwash.

This security and law enforcement approach used against those who are at war with us will never work.

We can button up airliners tighter than a drum and do body cavity searches of passengers and you know what will happen?

The Jihadists will drive a truck loaded with TNT through the front door of the terminal at a major airport the day before Thanksgiving and kill hundreds.

Or they’ll target subways and trains like they did in Madrid, London and Paris.

Or they’ll target shopping malls or schools.

Until we realize that this is a war and not a law enforcement problem and that these terrorists have a common thread, whether they are lone wolves or part of cells, it will keep getting worse.

The problem is Islam. Not Muslims, but Islam as practiced by a core of Muslims who largely control the Islamic world. Their goal is to implement sharia law. Their goal is not for you and me to convert to Islam, but to impose sharia on us. That is what they are fighting for and sharia is their doctrine as well. We ignore this at our peril. The reason for everything they do can be looked up in books that they wrote. Not just the Noble Quran, but books like “Reliance of the Traveler” and “Milestones” and “The Quranic Concept of War.” If you really want to understand where the enemy is coming from, buy these books on Amazon and read them.

Then download Stephen Coughlin’s thesis from the Center for Security Policy web site. It’s free and it should be the handbook for fighting the war of ideas.

There is a global Jihadist insurgency and insurgencies are 80% political/ideological not military. We can win the military side. But we aren’t even fighting the other 80%. And that’s what manufactures guys like this Nigerian, who was, like most Jihadist terrorists, wealthy and educated, even privileged. (This is NOT about poverty; don’t let anyone tell you that.)

The Jihadis are indoctrinated for years in mosques and madrassas. They don’t go “radical” by accident. It is a system. Go to the MEMRI web site and take a look at state-run television in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the Palestinian territories and even Egypt. You will be shocked at what you see and hear, especially on the programs targeted at children. Jihadis are not born. They are created. Furthermore, they aren’t created because the USA supports Israel or because the USA overthrew Saddam Hussein in Iraq or the Taliban in Afghanistan. Their agenda is much wider, longer and deeper than that.

The Jihadists did not slaughter hundreds of school children in Beslan, Russia because the USA supports Israel or because US troops are in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The Jihadists killed 241 US servicemen in Beirut in 1983, blew up the World Trade Center in 1993, blew up a USAF barracks in 1995, blasted our embassies in east Africa in 1998, attacked the USS Cole in 2000 and flew airplanes into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon on September 11th 2001 before a single American soldier or Marine set foot in Iraq or Afghanistan.

The Jihadists didn’t kill 200 Australian tourists in Bali, Indonesia because the US supports Israel. They didn’t slaughter dozens in Mumbai, India because the US is in Iraq. They aren’t killing people in southern Thailand because the US is in Afghanistan. And the Islamic insurgency in the Philippines predates all of this.

There must be something else at work.

It’s called Jihad.

You can expect some type of Jihadist incident involving Americans to be in the news every week from now on. Some incidents will be violent Jihad like Fort Hood and Flight 253. Others will be civilizational or “stealth” jihad, such as refusing to allow bomb-sniffing dogs near Muslims based on some notion of religious “freedom.” This is the environment that fighting a politically correct war for 8 years has created. Get used to it.

Let me give you an example of what we’re up against. The best example is Saudi Arabia. Some in the US refer to the Sauds as “allies” in the “war on terrorism.” But if the Sauds are really at war with Al Qaeda and the Jihadists, then why don’t we hear about lots of attempts on the lives of Saudi princes (and there are thousands of Saudi princes)? They are not hard to find. Go to a casino or disco in London or Monte Carlo and you can find them and often without tight security. Since Al Qaeda was founded in 1989, the number of Saudi royals killed by their terrorism stands at 0. In that time, there was only a single documented attempt by an Al Qaeda terrorist on a Saudi prince, who just happened to be the minister of the Interior, in charge of a large portion of security forces.

In Saudi Arabia when you are caught shoplifting, under their Sharia law, you have a good chance of getting your hand chopped off as punishment. A woman gets 100 lashes for the crime of adultery. The Sauds behead people for more serious crimes.

Yet, when a Saudi is caught on the battlefield as a member of Al Qaeda by US forces in Iraq or Afghanistan and is turned over to the Sauds, what happens to them?

They are sent to rehab. In rehab they are issued crayons and paint for art therapy. (I am not joking.) After rehab, they are released.

Why do you suppose this is?

I’ll tell you why. Because they haven’t committed a crime as far as the Sauds are concerned. Shoplifting gets your hand chopped off, Jihad doesn’t even get you a slap on the wrist.

Does anyone still believe that the Sauds are our allies?

The Jihadists get funded, they get trained and they get granted safe haven. This happens a number of ways and from a number of sources and we need to go after them. Use our strengths to go after the ideological and financial and training sources. Until we do, expect this to get worse and worse. Taking our shoes off before getting on the airplane isn’t going to help one damn bit.
