Africa on Fire: Jihad on the March

In recent years it has become increasingly clear that the Jihadists have targeted the African continent.

On September 11, 2001, the groups Al Shabaab, Boko Haram, Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb, Ansar al Shariah and the Islamic State were not just unheard of–they didn’t even exist.

Today these groups are waging Jihad, killing thousands in their drives to establish Islamic rule under Shariah law…

This development didn’t just “happen.” The rise of Jihad was promoted and financed. Africa is becoming a battleground because the global Jihadist movement has targeted it.

At least one analyst reports that Al Qaeda, the Islamic State and Boko Haram are all training in the Saharan desert nation of Mauritania:

Here are details from just the past few weeks:

Boko Haram

Human Rights Watch reports that Boko Haram has killed 1,000 people so far this year in four different African nations (Nigeria, Cameroon, Chad and Niger):

Earlier this week, Boko Haram carried out yet another mass kidnapping:

As pressure mounts on Boko Haram from the militaries of various African nations, the Jihadis have begun using human shields:

Al Shabaab

Earlier this week, Al Shabaab attacked a hotel in Mogadishu, killing 17 and wounding 28:

The US has issued a warning of a possible attack by Al Shabaab in Uganda’s capital city, Kampala:

Australia’s government has issued a travel alert warning about possible attacks by Al Shabaab in Kenya’s capital, Nairobi:

http://www.businessinsider.com/r-australia-warns-of-possible-attacks-in-kenyan-capital-2015-3

Al Shabaab has taken a page from the Islamic State’s propaganda manual, producing a video showing the barbaric and cowardly execution of unarmed civilians:

Ansar al Shariah

Last week, Ansar al Shariah killed 23 mostly Western tourists in an attack on the Bardo museum in Tunis (there may also have been Al Qaeda involvement):

http://www.voanews.com/content/reu-tunisia-signals-local-al-qaida-links-to-bardo-museum-attack/2695308.html

Ansar al Shariah was also at work in Libya, where in Benghazi an Islamikaze bomber killed 7 at an army checkpoint:

Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb

mali-algeria-and-aqim-in-sahel

In Mali, Jihadists with AQIM beheaded a civilian for cooperating with the French Army, which has been doing a bang up job of clobbering AQIM Jihadists in Mali for a few years now…

Islamic State

A Libyan government official warns that the Islamic State is planning attacks on Italy, possibly using airliners missing in Libya for some time.

http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2015/mar/25/inside-the-ring-islamic-state-likely-to-attack-ita/

Earlier this month, Islamic State Jihadis attacked Libya’s largest oil field, beheading 8 Libyan guards and taking 9 foreigners hostage (2 Bangladeshi hostages were subsequently released):

Ironically, after aiding Jihadists in Libya a few years ago, US government officials are now worried that the Islamic State is making inroads in Libya:

http://www.reuters.com/article/2015/03/20/us-libya-security-idUSKBN0MG2G520150320

What all this indicates is that the global Jihadist movement is getting stronger and spreading its violent attacks to more areas of the world, giving them more training areas, launching pads and recruiting fodder with which to wage war against America and the West.

JIHAD ISN’T ALL ABOUT ISRAEL

By Christopher Holton

If you listen to some political pundits on both sides of the aisle, you might get the misimpression that Jihadists target America and America is viewed negatively in the Islamic world because of our support for Israel.

The problem with that line of thinking is that ignores some 1400 years of Islamic doctrine.

Each Jihadist terror organization around the globe has a specific goal in mind and that is the formation of an Islamic state ruled by Shariah.

This is very important to understand because this is a common goal of all the major Jihadist organizations across the world. It is shared by Al Qaeda, HAMAS, Lashkar e Taiba, Abu Sayyaf, Jemaah Islamiyah, Boko Haram, Al Shabaab and others and transcends any localized disagreements over borders and pure politics.

Israel could evaporate tomorrow and the overriding goal of the formation of Islamic states ruled by Shariah would not change a bit.

Those who blame Jihad on Israel need to ask themselves some important questions:

  • Did ISIS wage Jihad in Iraq and Syria to establish an Islamic state ruled by Shariah law because America supports Israel?
  • Did the Jihadist terrorist group Boko Haram in Nigeria kidnap 300 young girls this spring because America supports Israel?
  • Did the Taliban seize power in Afghanistan in 1996 to establish an Islamic state ruled by Shariah law because America supports Israel?
  • Did the Jihadist terrorist group Al Shabaab attack the Westgate shopping mall in Nairobi, Kenya, in September 2013, killing 67 innocent civilians, because America supports Israel?
  • Did the Jihadist terrorist group Lashkar e Taiba launch terrorist attacks in Mumbai, India in 2008, killing 154 innocent civilians because America supports Israel?
  • Did the Jihadist terrorist group Jemaah Islamiyah bomb resorts in Bali, Indonesia in October 2002, killing 202 innocent civilians because America supports Israel?
  • Did Chechen Jihadist terrorists massacre 334 people, mostly school children, in Beslan, Russia, because the US supports Israel?
  • Did Jihadist terrorists with the group Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) detonate a bomb in Marrakesh, Morroco in April 2011, killing 17 innocent civilians, because America supports Israel.

Of course, the answer to each and every one of these questions is no and the questions and answers prove a point. Jihad is truly global. Tragically, it is one of the most successful “exports” in the world over the past decade.

None of the regions mentioned above have a thing to do with Israel. Most don’t have anything to do with America.

The doctrine behind global jihad is over a thousand years old. In other words, the jihadist doctrine has been around far longer than America has even been in existence.

The Jihadists are not motivated only by our actions. They don’t just react to what we do. They have their own reasons for waging violent Jihad which have nothing to do with America, Israel or anything that you or I have any control over.

The quicker our politicians—both Democrat and Republican—gain a full understanding of this, the better.

Boko Haram Killed As Many People in 2014 As The Islamic State

NIGERIA-UNREST-BOKO-HARAM

Here is a reminder of the Jihad we have mostly been ignoring in the West. While we have largely been focusing on the Islamic State in the Middle East, Boko Haram in west Africa has been slaughtering innocent victims at an even more rapid pace.

Other than a self-serving photo op of Michelle Obama using hashtag diplomacy after 300 Christian school girls were kidnapped by the Jihadists, there has been almost no attention focused on Boko Haram. (Does anyone even remember those poor girls any more?)

Deaths related to violence caused by Nigeria’s Islamist terror group Boko Haram is now comparable with the number of civilians killed by the Islamic State, or ISIS, group in Iraq, according to new figures.

Between November 2013 and November 2014, at least 10,340 violent deaths related to Boko Haram-related violence were reported…

According to the United Nations figures, 10,733 civilians were violently killed by ISIS in Iraq in the same period.

AP: Islamic State and Al Qaeda Reach Accord

ISIS-Global-Conquest-Map1-450x251

The Associated Press is reporting that the Islamic State and Al Qaeda have reached an accord after a summit meeting in northern Syria.

This is a very bad development, but not unexpected. Abu Sayyef in the Philippines, Boko Haram in West Africa, Al Shabaab in East Africa, and Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula all already pledged allegiance to the Islamic State. Just this week, Egypt’s most dangerous Jihadist group, Ansar Beit al-Maqdis, also joined the Islamic State. In addition, 5 prominent Taliban leaders also pledged allegiance to the Islamic State.

We are now seeing the dream of the Caliphate being realized by Jihadis worldwide. Far from having them “on the run,” they are making strides and unifying, fighting in more places with more fighters than at any time in the past several hundred years.

Half-hearted measures, micromanagement by unqualified politicians and a Vietnam-style strategy of gradual escalation are sure to fail and, unlike the Viet Cong and the North Vietnamese Army, today’s Jihadist enemies are already in our midst and plotting to attack us here.

Meanwhile, our irresponsible, feckless leaders focus on fringe pet issues of the Left rather than real national security issues, sitting by as the Islamic State spreads its violent Jihad from the Philippines to Libya and Nigeria.

Our children will pay the price for such horrible, misguided policies, which amount to perhaps the biggest strategic blunder in American history.

HOLTON: The Enemy Knows We’re In A World War, But We Don’t

Excerpt and LINK from my guest article in The Hayride…

The Islamic State is not simply an Iraqi problem or a Syrian problem. IS has metastasized into a worldwide organization with 20,000 recruits from Iraq, Syria, Pakistan, Somalia, the U.S., Great Britain, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Austria, Spain, India, Malaysia, Indonesia and Germany. Even worse, Jihadists from Boko Haram in Nigeria, Abu Sayyef in the Philippines, Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb in Northwest Africa and Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula from Yemen have all pledged allegiance to IS.

There can no longer be any doubt that the global Islamic insurgency that some have been warning about for some time, amounts to a world war. Nevertheless, policymakers here in the U.S. continue to ignore or deny this reality.

Over the period of a generation, the West has allowed itself to be thoroughly infiltrated by a savage and barbaric belief system. This is evidenced by the global base of recruitment that the Islamic State has been able to take advantage of and the numerous public displays of support for IS in the West.

A Stark View Into the Female Jihadist Mindset

Another chilling, but indispensable, video from MEMRI.

The only way to describe this video is “monstrous.” This mindset that comes from centuries-old doctrine displayed in this video demonstrates how embedded Jihad is. Keep in mind that this video was made in Great Britain. Not Nigeria. Not Libya. Not Egypt. Not Pakistan. BRITAIN.

The woman mentioned in the video, Aafia Siddiqui, is a convicted Jihadist terrorist from Pakistan who attended the University of Houston and MIT obtained a PhD from Brandeis University in 2001. Yes BRANDEIS! Like so many Jihadis, she was active in the Muslim Students Association (MSA), the oldest Muslim Brotherhood organization in the US.

She worked directly for Khalid Sheikh Mohammed of Al Qaeda and was captured by US forces in Afghanistan. She tried to kill a US Army captain while undergoing questioning.

She was convicted of terrorism charges and will spend the next 86 years in US federal prison in Fort Worth, Texas.

Siddiqui was neither uneducated nor impoverished. Quite to the contrary, like many Jihadis, she gave up a comfortable life to wage Jihad for Al Qaeda. She even gave up her own children.

This should serve as a reminder of the dangers we face from Jihad here in the West. Any woman who would justify and glorify the kidnapping of innocent girls and praise their conversion to Islam, can only be described as an animal and should be treated as such.

Nigeria: Another Forgotten–Or Ignored–Jihad

cfce0231cb31690e510f6a706700b15e

There is an unfortunate tendency in the West to downplay the threat from Jihad. This is especially true when the acts of Jihad occur in the Third World and especially when the victims are non-white and poor.

This week has provided us with prime examples of this in Nigeria, where Boko Haram has continued its Jihadist terror with horrific attacks which have been little more than an afterthought in US and other Western media. For instance, on one of the news aggregator services we frequently check, Newsnow.co.uk, the terrorist attacks in Nigeria don’t even rate a mention among the 31 “Hot Topics” that are listed. Violence in Central Africa makes the list, where Christians have been fighting back aggressively against Jihad. But Nigeria, where Boko Haram has made a national sport of killing non-Muslims, is not considered important or “hot.”

http://www.newsnow.co.uk/h/

So what exactly happened in Nigeria this week that the media are ignoring?

On Monday, the 14th of April, two bombs set off by Boko Haram at a busy commuter bus station in the capital of Abuja killed 72 and wounded 133 civilians. As many as 40 buses were destroyed in the attack. It is actually a miracle that more people were not killed.

http://news.yahoo.com/photos/blast-in-nigerian-capital-1397479416-slideshow/

This is the kind of attack that, had it happened in Europe or the USA, would have absolutely dominated the news for days afterwards. But because it happened in Nigeria, no one is really paying all that much attention. Given that Easter approaches this Sunday, there is the frightening proposition that more attacks could occur. That’s exactly what happened two years ago on Easter, as we reported here:

http://terrortrendsbulletin.com/2012/04/08/boko-haram-islamikaze-car-bomb-kills-38-christians-outside-easter-service-in-kaduna-nigeria/

Unfortunately, Boko Haram’s Jihadist attacks did not end this week with the bombing of the bus station.

On Tuesday, Boko Haram Jihadist terrorists, posing as soldiers, kidnapped 129 young girls from a school in Chibok, Nigeria. Late Thursday, a military spokesman claimed that most of the girls had been freed, but it now appears that this is not the case. 115 girls are still missing, heading into the Easter weekend during which the Jihadists have demonstrated a tendency to commit atrocities.

The name Boko Haram roughly translates as “Western education is forbidden” and the terrorist group has repeatedly attacked schools and universities over the years. It is also possible that one or both of the attacks were the work of Ansaru, an offshoot of Boko Haram, though given that Ansaru members have been known to return to Boko Haram, it isn’t entirely clear that the two organizations operate completely independently of one another. Ansaru is also known as Vanguard for the Protection of Muslims in Black Lands.

ansaru_2484654b

72 killed, 133 wounded, 129 young schoolgirls kidnapped, all since Monday…had this happened in Europe or the US, it would have stopped all activity. But it’s Africa, so it’s hardly worth mentioning…except we have seen from Afghanistan and Sudan what happens when you let Jihadists metastasize in the Third World…

Curious Words from a Muslim Cleric in Nigeria

A Muslim cleric has urged “Nigerians to live in peace and harmony.”

Sheikh Nura Khalid, the Chief Imam of Legislators’ Quarter’s Mosque, made the call in a telephone interview.

In our view, this call amounts to more meaningless platitudes that we see and hear around the world from Islamic clerics.

We noticed that Khalid made a general statement that Nigerians “should not allow disgruntled elements who find pleasure in destruction to destroy our nation in the name of religion.”

What he did NOT say is perhaps more significant than what he did say. His words sound soothing to the untrained ear, but notice that he did not come out and condemn Boko Haram, the Nigerian Jihadist terrorist organization that has been responsible for repeated bloody attacks on Christian churches, especially on Christian holy days.

One of the journalists should have asked the Sheikh to specifically condemn Boko Haram. The Sheikh’s response would have been interesting. Had he done so, it would have been much more significant than general statements about peace, harmony and violence.

Even better would have been a question asking the Sheikh to discredit violent Jihad. THAT would have been interesting indeed!

Christian Churches Attacked in Kenya on Christmas

There was good news and bad news on the front against Jihad in Africa this Christmas.

The good news was that there were no reported attacks on Christians in Nigeria by Boko Haram, something that has happened in the past few years on Christmas Day, as well as just about every other significant day on the Christian religious calendar.

The bad news is that there were attacks on churches in Kenya. These attacks seem to have been on the order of mob violence, rather than organized terrorist attacks, but they were still an act of Jihad.

More bad news: the Reuters news agency, whose parent company has extensive ties to Shariah-compliant finance, filed a terribly researched and misleading report on these attacks which can be found on India’s First Post news site.

It is no mere coincidence that Jihad has erupted across the African continent in recent years. We have seen active Jihadi violence in Cameroon, Nigeria, Niger, Mali, Mauritania, Senegal, Ghana, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, South Sudan, Somalia, Kenya, Tanzania and the Central African Republic.  If you subscribe to the so-called “mainstream” media for an explanation for this phenomenon, you’d believe that it was caused by “sectarian tensions,” poverty, or general lawlessness.

These explanations are balderdash. Africans of various ethnicities, faiths, tribal origins and nationalities have lived in close proximity to each other for centuries. Unlike past violence, the recent wave of Jihadi violence has two common threads: Islam and Jihad. Past violence may have been due to local differences, but Boko Haram operating in Nigeria and Cameroon, Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb operating in Mali and Niger, and Al Shabaab operating in Somalia and Kenya all have the same doctrinal basis for their violent campaigns: Islam.

We can deny it all we want, but it doesn’t make it untrue.

With regard to the Christmas Day attacks in Kenya, “youths,” (codespeak in mainstream media like Reuters for young Jihadis) threw Molotov cocktails at Christian churches:

Youths threw petrol bombs at two Kenyan churches on Christmas day, police said on Thursday, in the latest bout of violence against Christians on the country’s predominantly Muslim coast. Police and witnesses said the churches on the edge of port city of Mombasa were attacked in the early hours of December 25 after churchgoers held services to usher in Christmas. Police had no suspects but were exploring the possibility that the attacks may have been launched by Muslim militants…

Now, here’s a significant clue as to the actual origin of this violence:

Police said Muslim youths believed to be controlled by radical preachers with links to Somali militant group al Shabaab might be behind the attacks, which left one church completely destroyed.

For years we have been hearing over and over again that terrorism has nothing to do with Islam, yet for years and years we see reports of Muslim Imams and clerics admonishing Muslims to commit violence. We have seen it around the world: from Anwar al-Awlaki in San Diego, Denver and Northern Virginia; from the Blind Sheikh in Egypt and then Brooklyn, New York; from Anjem Choudary in the UK; from Sheikh Yussef al Qaradawi in Egypt and Qatar; from Hezbollah cleric Hassan Nasrallah in Lebanon; from Mufti Taqi Usmani in Pakistan; from a host of Saudi clerics and, last but certainly not least, from the Ayatollahs who rule the Islamic Republic of Iran.

How do you suppose that ideological supporters of Al Shabaab came to be clerics in mosques in Kenya? It doesn’t just happen by osmosis. It happens through dawa operations (missionary work) funded by petrowealth in nations such as Qatar and Saudi Arabia. Mosques have to be built and funded. Clerics and Imams have to be paid. The money doesn’t grow on trees in the African bush.

Now we get to the typical Reuters apologetics for Islamic jihad–the part where Reuters blames the Christian victims of Jihadi violence for being attacked:

Many Muslims on the Indian Ocean coastline feel marginalised by Kenya’s predominantly Christian government and the historically cordial relations between the two communities have suffered strains in recent years.

“The churches are located in an area mainly inhabited by Muslims, and church members had reported threats before from some youth who told them to close the churches down,” said Robert Mureithi, the Likoni area police chief.

Clearly this is Reuters’ pathetic attempt at “balance.” The inference here is that the churches were attacked because the Muslim community has been mistreated in some way by the Kenyan government. Oh, and the churches were in a predominantly Muslim area, and we all know that having a Christian church in a predominantly Muslim area is “provocative.” One wonders whether these churches will be rebuilt, or will the congregations decide to worship elsewhere? Because that is exactly what the Jihadists want. They want to impose Shariah, first locally, then nationally, then regionally and eventually globally.

Under Shariah, it is forbidden to make repairs or improvements to Christian churches. The Jihadis will see to it that Shariah is enforced one way or another. We should not at all be surprised if the churches are not rebuilt, if attacks on churches continue and if eventually churches and Christians disappear from these areas altogether.

Today it is the coast of Kenya, the nation that saw the horrific Jihadi attack on a shopping mall in Nairobi not terribly long ago. But it most certainly will not end in Kenya.

When will the West wake up?

Boko Haram Attacks Another Church in Nigeria

There is yet another example of Jihadist violence targeting peaceful Christian worshippers in Nigeria, yet you can be sure that there will be scant coverage of this in the U.S. media.

The Reuters news agency is reporting that terrorists with small arms attacked a church and market in the farming village of Njilang, Adamawa state, near the border with Cameroon. The region is one in which Boko Haram has been known to operate.

The Jihadis started their attack in a market in the village, slaying 6 people, then moved on to the church and opened fire there, killing 4 more. Nine more were wounded. The terrorists escaped across the nearby border with Cameroon.
